when i was a child i wanted to be an airline pilot and my insane mother railed against this ambition of mine as boring and inadequate, she said i might as well be taxi driver. some imponderable combination of social pressures and my own talents steered me toward ancient history/archaeology anyway, but i’ve always been an aviation enthusiast in my reading and i really think a massive defect of the modern world is allowing stupid hag women to importune upon the naive visions of young boys. i would’ve been totally happy and thrilled to be a pilot, i put up with loads of shit in academia and walked away from it permanently embittered.

If you read the lives of Caesar, Alexander, and Napoleon you can see how their seemingly delusional mindset shaped their success. Caesar in particular had a knack for turning bad situations to his advantage. He was once kidnapped by pirates in the Mediterranean, but his personality won them over. When they tried to ransom him for 20 talents of silver, he demanded that they raise it to 50. After his release, he raised an army and killed all of the pirates who had previously kidnapped him. He did the most insane political maneuvers too, like running for pontifex maximus at 36 while lacking all of the typical prerequisites. All of this built up an insane aura around him which just accelerated his success.

This is mostly why I’m anti-wearable/anti-data tracking, & also anti-tik tok/anti-ig. Do whatever it takes to preserve ur positive mindset, & remove the things that mess with it. Spend enough time on those apps & trackers & u will be convinced that u have PCOS, perimenopause, ur husband is cheating on u, & u can’t go to the gym because ur in ur luteal phase or whatever. It’s all driving u insane & making u miserable

Literally just having a delusional golden retriever mindset measurably changes outcomes and physiology. Sleep badly? Convince yourself you're well rested. Stressful day? Convince yourself it's fuel. Failed? Convince yourself it's useful data.

when people bring pop psychology terms and phrases like “whimsy & joy” “toxic” “in my feminine” “healing era” into a normal conversation…..suddenly a distance is wedged….you’re as inanimate to me as a screen
