I can try to answer this. Try being the key word. I'd assess that there are two effects at play. Rally‑around‑the‑flag effect: In a war or external threat, people feel a strong pull to unite behind their leader and nation, which matters here because once the Iran war began, many Republicans felt it was their duty to back “their” president and the military rather than keep criticizing the strike. Social proof inside the party: People look to what most fellow partisans and party elites are saying and then align with that, which matters here because as Republican leaders and media clearly signaled support for the strikes, rank‑and‑file Republicans took that as a cue that “this is what good Republicans think,” driving support from ~20% to much higher.

I honestly cannot explain this. Before the strikes on Iran, Republican voters were overwhelmingly opposed to U.S. involvement in a conflict between Israel and Iran. A survey by YouGov and The Economist found that only 23% of Republicans supported U.S. military involvement, while 53% opposed it.
