Gay Teacher & Boyfriend Convicted of Sexually Abusing and Murdering Adopted Baby. In a case that has shocked Britain and raised serious questions about adoption safeguards, a former head of year at a secondary school and his boyfriend have been found guilty of subjecting their 13-month-old adopted son to a horrifying campaign of sexual and physical abuse that ended in his murder. Jamie Varley, 37, a seemingly respectable teacher from Blackpool who took a year off work to care for the toddler, was convicted today at Preston Crown Court of murder, two counts of assault by penetration, multiple counts of child cruelty, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and a series of disturbing offences involving indecent images and videos of the child. His partner, John McGowan Fazakerley, 32, a financial sales manager, was convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child, two counts of child cruelty, and sexual assault. Little Preston Davey, described by foster carers as a happy, bubbly boy with a massive smile, died at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on July 27, 2023, just four months after being placed with the couple in April that year. A post-mortem examination revealed the tiny boy had suffered around 40 separate injuries, including signs of prolonged sexual and physical abuse. Varley claimed the child had accidentally drowned in the bath, but forensic evidence proved otherwise. Prosecutors described how Varley, who jurors heard was a serial manipulator and serial liar, subjected the vulnerable baby, who had already endured a traumatic start in life, born in prison to a mother with her own criminal history, to months of routine ill-treatment. McGowan Fazakerley turned a blind eye or actively participated in the abuse. The court heard details of indecent images and videos taken of Preston, which Varley distributed. In evidence, he claimed to feel ashamed of some photos but denied the full extent of the abuse. Foster carer Sandra Cooper reportedly had a gut feeling of unease when handing the baby over to the same-sex couple, a detail that has intensified scrutiny on the adoption process. The eight-week trial at Preston Crown Court heard from medical experts, police bodycam footage of the chaotic aftermath at the hospital, and desperate 999 calls. Both men denied all charges throughout, with McGowan Fazakerley insisting he never harmed the boy and would have protected him if he suspected danger. After just over two days of deliberations, the jury of 10 returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all counts. Varley and McGowan Fazakerley were remanded in custody. Sentencing is set for Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the same court before Mr Justice Turner. Victim personal statements from Preston's birth family and former foster carers are expected to be read. Varley is expected to receive a life sentence with a lengthy minimum term. Lancashire Police and social services are likely to face difficult questions in the coming days. #UKNews #CrimeNews #Blackpool

Woman Sexually Assaulted On Busy Train, Police Hunt Suspect. A woman was sexually assaulted in the middle of the afternoon on a packed London Underground Jubilee Line train, with her attacker using a newspaper as a makeshift shield to conceal his perverted actions from other passengers. The incident happened on Thursday, 28 May 2026, at around 1:40pm. The victim was travelling on the train heading towards West Hampstead when the suspect struck. According to officers, the man boarded the train at either Bond Street or Green Park station. He deliberately sat down next to the woman before carrying out the sexual assault, holding up a newspaper to hide what he was doing from those around them. When the victim confronted the suspect, he moved away down the carriage. He then left the train at West Hampstead Underground station. Police are appealing for anyone who recognises this man, or who witnessed the disturbing incident, to come forward immediately. Officers stressed that the victim showed considerable courage in confronting her attacker. They are urging anyone with information to contact them by texting BTP on 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40. #UKNews #CrimeNews #London

A gay couple, one a teacher and the other a salesman, who were allowed to adopt a baby boy were today convicted at Preston Crown court of the murder and mutiple sexual assaults of the 11-month-old- child. These vile human beings will, I trust, face their own lifetime of torture in jail.
