London now has tens of thousands of bright green parakeets, spreading to new areas every year. They were never native to Britain. So how did they end up here? Most likely, they escaped or were released from captivity decades ago. Since then, they’ve adapted remarkably well to London’s parks and suburbs, helped by mild winters and abundant food. To some, they add colour and character to the city, to others, they are seen as an invasive species. Have they reached your area yet?
