Bishop Athanasius Schneider speaks very clearly: "They are not refugees, they are invaders who want to Islamize Europe. They want to destroy historical culture in Europe.” They should have made him Pope.

When the night grows dark and the waters become rough, fear easily takes hold of our hearts. Yet it is precisely there that Jesus comes walking toward us. “Do not be afraid.” His voice is enough. When we welcome Him, even the storm cannot keep us from reaching the shore.

On the birthday of Henry Mancini, we remember the composer who gave cinema some of its most unforgettable melodies. From the timeless “Moon River” in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) to the iconic theme of The Pink Panther, Mancini had a rare gift for turning emotion into music—elegant, wistful, and instantly recognizable. His work didn’t just accompany films; it defined their mood, their memory, their soul. Today, we celebrate a legacy that still lingers in every note. 🎶

A young, beardless Luciano Pavarotti in one of his earliest live recordings—Moscow, 1964—singing Verdi’s “La donna è mobile” with striking ease and brilliance. Even in his youth, the voice is unmistakable: bright, effortless, and already commanding the stage with natural Italianate style. A glimpse of the legend before the world fully knew his name.

Today is the feast day of St. Bernadette Soubirous, the messenger of Our Lady at Lourdes. After her death on April 16, 1879, at the age of 33, her body was exhumed three times - in 1909, 1919, and 1925 - and was found to be incorrupt. One of the doctors who oversaw the examination of her body in 1946 was particularly astonished by the state of her liver, which was "soft and almost normal in consistency." Her body is interred at the Chapel of St. Bernadette in Nevers in a crystal coffin.

Our nation has no more solemn duty than to lay our veterans to rest with reverence. One way we do that is by allowing veterans to select an emblem of belief for inscription on their headstone. Right now, several Christian denominations have emblems, as do Jewish, Muslim, and Hindu faiths. Even atheists, humanists, and wiccans have eligible emblems.  Yet Catholics - who make up 20% of our military - cannot select a crucifix, one of the central symbols of our faith. That’s wrong, and it is time for us to fix it. I was proud to sign a bipartisan letter with my colleagues urging @SecVetAffairs to offer the crucifix as an eligible emblem of belief for inscription on headstones in our national cemeteries.

“I shall spend every moment loving. One who loves does not notice her trials; or perhaps more accurately, she is able to love them. I shall do everything for heaven, my true home. There I shall find my Mother in all the splendor of her glory. I shall delight with her in the joy of Jesus Himself in perfect safety.” St. Bernadette Soubirous, pray for us.

The Magisterium constitutes the Church’s living and authoritative teaching office, entrusted with the authentic interpretation and transmission of Divine Revelation. Derived from the Latin word ‘magister’, meaning teacher, the Magisterium is exercised by the Pope and the bishops who remain in communion with him. Its fundamental purpose is to safeguard and expound the Sacred Deposit of Faith contained in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, under the continual guidance of the Holy Spirit, without ever adding to or subtracting from the original revelation given by Christ and the Apostles. The Magisterium operates in two primary modes. The ordinary Magisterium consists of the regular, day-to-day teaching activity carried out by the Pope through papal addresses, documents such as encyclicals and apostolic exhortations, as well as by the bishops in their dioceses through pastoral letters and catechetical instruction. The extraordinary Magisterium, by contrast, involves solemn and definitive pronouncements. These occur most notably when the Pope speaks ex cathedra, invoking papal infallibility on matters of faith or morals, or when an ecumenical council, gathered in union with the Pope, defines doctrines in a binding manner. The Magisterium does not possess the authority to invent new truths or to alter the content of revelation. Rather, its role is to interpret the unchanging Deposit of Faith with accuracy and fidelity, applying it to new circumstances while preserving its integrity. Teachings issued by the Magisterium carry varying degrees of authority. Infallible definitions, often called dogmas, demand the full assent of divine and Catholic faith from all believers. Other authoritative teachings, though not formally infallible, require religious submission of intellect and will, fostering unity in doctrine and preventing erroneous interpretations. Through the exercise of the Magisterium, the Catholic Church maintains continuity with apostolic teaching across the centuries. It serves as the visible instrument by which Christ continues to guide His Church, ensuring that the fullness of revealed truth remains accessible and faithfully transmitted to every generation. In this way, the Magisterium stands as both guardian and servant of the faith once delivered to the saints.
