4 years, blood, sweat, tears, Covid and an electrical fire at NOCS later, I am happy and relieved to announce that I submitted my PhD Thesis yesterday! #PhDone
Thanks to a rather anticlimactic online hand in process, there's no glitzy hand in photo. Oh well.

Proud of Clare Martinot for getting this amazing Indian Ocean record from her PhD research published! Thanks for another great collaboration @AntaCl 🙂 Thanks @TheJR and @ECORD and all of #Exp353, we couldn't have done it without you!

Happy to share our new research using IODP Expedition 353 samples on late Miocene Indian monsoon dynamics. 😀

@Hannaea_Fossil @OUGradSch It was very fiddly, and there is a hidden piece of cocktail stick helping the eye-piece to not slump under it's own weight!
English

@Emmelement @OUGradSch How the hell did you make that microscope 🔬?? 😮😮😮

Here's my entry for the @OUGradSch #BakeYourResearch competition. A fruitcake to represent the microfossil assemblage in my samples (raisins, sultanas & currants = planktics; nuts = fish teeth; glacé cherries = benthics), decorated to show "lab" conditions during lockdown.

English

@Emmelement @OUGradSch THIS IS BRILLIANT! How dare you make it when we can't all sit and gawp at it in the coffee room waiting for you to cut the first piece, argue about who gets the microscope and then taste how amazing it is! 😊

@JohannaMarquar3 @SophiMAlexander Are there any repeat ages or depths? I had the same problem until I removed duplicates. For a large spreadsheet I used IF statements and conditional formatting in excel to find them (but there's probably an easier way!).
English

@SophiMAlexander Thanks :) No gaps or jumps, will have to play around a bit more I guess!

Does anyone know how to avoid the error message “x must be in increasing order” (it is, I promise😉) in #QAnalySeries for the “target” input? I tried different file formats but it doesn’t work. It only works when I replace the age by sample IDs, but that's not ideal… Any ideas?

So a clean sweep in the judges votes for @OU_EEE once again shows how much we value and enjoy science communication! Whether that be through talks, videos, or cakes! Congratulations again to @KelleighGreene @SophiMAlexander and @Emmelement! May the winning streak continue! 😁🙌👏

Set up the tent last night @GreenManFest where I'm volunteering on the @OU_STEM geology stall (quick tell me some cool rock facts!). First night camping was quiet before the festival starts today. #greenman19

I found something unexpected in my marine sediment sample! This insect(?) is about 250 μm. We assume it jumped into the sample while washing as it doesn’t look marine and 1.5 Ma old to us… but we are intrigued now, does anyone know what this is? #insects #Entomology #biology

This Lego stop motion thing is really starting to pay off!
Only went and won 1st prize 🥇 in the Società Geologica Italiana Video competition! 😁📽️
Congrats to all the other winners, including fellow @OU_EEE PhD researcher @SophiMAlexander!!!

Had a lot of fun (and cake!) taking part in #geobakeoff 2019 as part of #Team209. Really enjoyed seeing how other people tackled the same challenges in different ways.

Morning all. If geologically themed baking isn't really your thing, you might want to mute #geobakeoff for a little while...It's time at last for the results of THE GREAT GEOBAKEOFF 2019!

The fantastic giant coccolithophore! These fossils are actually very small and can tell us about past and future climate change @Emmelement @OU_EEE @OU_STEM #geology #womeninscience #climatechange
