In a recent presentation before an American audience I described how 4-5 words we use in English today are derived from or related to the first line of the Rig Veda. Gurgaon Horror, Yet Again! Horrible to see young lives being taken away in the most ruthless manner by this wrong side driver. S/he should be put behind bars for life for this brazen, purposeful murder. I recently drove & covered over 2K kms spanning 20+ districts of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi & UP for almost a week; found wrong side drivers in each of those - two wheelers included. And before you think they are all ruffians from the badlands, we see the so called educated & elite drive wrong side, or jumping traffic lights, everyday in Gurgaon/Delhi. We see well-dressed corporate hotshots, drunk drivers nonetheless, leaving ubiquitous Cyberhubs of Gurugram every weekend, with a belief that “I am not that drunk”. These are all people committing crimes with intent - knowing that they are dangerous to others’ lives. Only when this crime will attract a lifetime of jail, some deterrence may be seen. Till then, wait for the next one. @timesofindia
