Maybe time to give my 2 cents. As a holder of an asset in the same ecosystem which breaks 3-4x of records of last 6 months. Still happy to have it.
Many people are unhappy with every aspect, but team has limited bandwidth and cannot change everything. I think need to focus on a few key things.
Price action of past cannot be back any time soon. That was a big hurdle. No one wants to 5% ATH but it can be thought of being overheated too quick. But the market can improve if team focuses on main things and improves fundamentals.
What is this collectible about?
- I think top down. It should appeal to highest caliber collectors who don’t have time for daily engagements but want one of a kind assets, storage of value with huge upside, innate desirability, art, cultural relevance, history and nostalgia, a carved space that addresses a huge void that demands to be filled. If assets of this type are executed well, things can trickle down and everything can fall in line in valuation system.
Key word: intrinsic fundamentals that fills a void + highly desirable = high caliber.
- Bottom up. It needs to be accessible, universally appealing, offers a pathway to kids or guys who have limited resources but lots of promise or passion. Physical hobby has priced kids out and a large sector out, an opportunity can be had. Those provide a large base of high caliber user profile farm and a group that is financially or otherwise incentivized to speak for the assets and hope they do well.
Key word: universal appeal for marketshare and conducive for onboarding and future potential.
Reality: In social media age, video reels of formats compete for attention, drop off after first 3-5 seconds is cliff like. Short form and engaging content gets mindshare.
How to differentiate from a youtube video is important (same way how PaniniBlockchain/cards differentiate from a poster)? Namely art and brands within brands with identity is missing. Just a quick idea, one can have a large head of player curating the play (from interview or podcast or specially made) and with smaller full body action shot going over the moment (4-5 seconds long) with design, of Flair showcase (the card)-esque. A generic intro and outro with different name in metadata and print run don’t constitute art & distinct sets.
How to boost & provide proof of concept for a young IP? People in game used world debate about debut jersey vs moment jersey all day long. There are surely ways to brand IP better. Do people collect event used cond’m of steamy scene or they actually salivate & want to experience that scene. I feel that pins down the actual fundamentals of video moment vs worn peripheral artifact. We celebrate the moment, the piece of things present in that moment get attached value but value is from moment. A huge value unlock is missing and can be had.
What does it mean to own a moment from all the possible ways to think and approach it? Then a product and narrative can be better built from it. Is the owning exclusive? Namely no other collectibles or monetization can be made from the same moment clip? Thinking along those lines.
I didn’t provide concrete answers and solutions (but almost) but actual ways to stimulate thinking and discussion in the right direction.
A huge opportunity is not taken fully IMHO.
The current fastbreak way to drive marketplace ain’t it. Utility cannot be 100% of market price action as it will drain collectability fast.
The buyback and repack flavored drop ain’t it either. Repack helps team cash flow but doesn’t get new guys into the cool sh!ts or the grails in a purposeful & assured way.
Hobby is evolving & new paradigm can be had afresh even years after initiation. Time to stop being just operating. Time to hone in on the fundamentals and deliver a product that is sticky intrinsically and collectors cannot live without.
