@Murmurs16477916 @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT I believe it; not trying to say it's not a problem. I've also talked to Special Forces guys, & know that units have vibrant Catholics, Protestants and Mormons that all respect each other. I see in this viral moment engagement farming, and sown division; trying not to take bait.
English

@FrJPCOP @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT This guy is telling men and women in the armed services that Catholics are less-than. That we're "idolators." And he's not just telling them: he was invited by the SecWar to tell them that .
I heard this stuff when I went to Pakistan and I saw what the results are.

NEW: Pete Hegseth's pastor and mentor says the United States should ban public Masses, Marian processions, and Corpus Christi devotions.
Hegseth invited the anti-Catholic preacher to lead a prayer service at the Pentagon on February 14. thelettersfromleo.com/p/pete-hegseth…

@douglaswils @bradleybirzer This just says that we've got a ways to go between now and accepting Mary as Mother of the Church! 😉 It would be thrilling if contemporary Protestants held Mary in as high of esteem as the Protestant Reformers did.
English

@bradleybirzer Bradley, I wasn't talking about anything internal to a worship service. I was talking about a Virgin Mary parade down Main Street.

@Dalek_fan @RightWingWatch Think we have a lot of work to do to communicate to the world the right relationship between Church & State.
English

@FrJPCOP @RightWingWatch You better defend separation of church and state if you enjoy your religious belief.
You don't want a state dictating how you must practice your religion or imposing one
English

@odessaphi52 @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT Contextually, it seems to me that he's speaking about in his perfect 'Reformed GenevAmerica.' Which, I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it; I would say we never will. It's just not high on my list of things to get riled up about.
English

@FrJPCOP @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT He said it pretty clearly and specifically in a different clip. He also said a lot of other horrific things. Am I afraid he's going to ban Catholic worship? No. Do I want him to be involved in our government in any way or habe ppl in our govt that follow him? Also no.
English

@Murmurs16477916 @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT So I actually think this is true enough; I just think that the roster of staunchly reformed Calvinists and prospective converts is enough thinner than the Catholic bench that he's going to be reaching across to Catholics, politically. We're growing faster than his are.
English

@FrJPCOP @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT Actually, all this clarifies is that he’ll say one thing to one audience and say another to a different audience. It’s clear that as a prominent Christian nationalist he’s encouraging Protestants to not regard Catholics as Christians.
English

@azkmcdev @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT I think the wake of Vatican II has boosted Christian relations such that we find it flabbergasting. In 1950, many Protestants hated Eucharistic processions exactly for this.
English

@FrJPCOP @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT I'm sure you are Father. I did not mean to be disrespectful. I was, and still am, flabbergasted that a minister would use the word idolatry when describing a procession with the Eucharist. That is truly disrespectful, and I am shocked, stunned, that he would say it.
English

@odessaphi52 @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT Given that people are stirring up stuff about wanting Catholic worship banned, and he is not saying that, yes.
English

@azkmcdev @ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT I'm well-enough catechized to know that the Reformed have been calling the Eucharist 'Idolatry' for centuries. If there was a chance of his Theocracy emerging, I would speak out. But even he admits this is his ideal state, not what will come about here.
English

@ChristopherHale @FrJPCOP @DouthatNYT Yeah, the more glaring argument should be that he is calling a procession with the Eucharist "idolatry" . Where are the truly well catechized Catholic clergy?
English

@ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT As a note, given what's come out, it would have been a great chance for @DouthatNYT to be cheeky after 11:06-11:22 and ask if Eucharistic processions missed his cut. Maybe that can be in a follow-up episode 😉
English

@ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT Absolutely, not trying to be dismissive or anything. I just think very strongly that based on what he says in this interview, that public Catholic worship would not be pursued. Don't want to limit the convo to one aspect, but this illuminates.

@ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT Nothing wrong with being partisan; for better or worse it's part of our politics, and we need members of the Body of Christ in every corner to try to bring health to the Body Politic!
English

@FrJPCOP @DouthatNYT Will check out. I constantly concede on Substack (and here!) that I’m a partisan, which definitely colors many of my views on Wilson et al.
English

@ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT Just think that the framing can be misleading and inflammatory rather than rightly critique Wilson's perspective, which there is plenty of room to do.
English

@FrJPCOP @DouthatNYT Do you mind explaining more? I’m a bit lost on your tweet.
English

@ChristopherHale @DouthatNYT I can't recall the whole interview, but there are points where Douthat pushes, and it sounds as though Wilson knows that his whole project is ultimately the 'art of the possible,' even from such a fringe reformed perspective. I don't want to put words in either mouth, though.

@BuffedInPrime Give me your list of top 10 cornerback prospects of the last 30 years, with traits and performance projected to the NFL level. For me, Moore is a top-10 player on that list. He will be a stud, barring freak injury.

He’s a really good CB, but he’s not generational. Unless Generational means “Yearly”… then sure

@roddreher Praying for Orthodox/Catholic communion; the day is coming, God willing.
English

Hammer away, dear. Amazingly enough, I didn't leave Jesus. By Catholic lights, I didn't really leave the Church. You've only been Catholic for under two years, but if you dig deeper into your church's teaching, you'll see that Catholicism recognizes Orthodox orders and sacraments
Bree Solstad@BreeSolstad
I generally like Rod and enjoyed watching his episode with Fradd. But this is nonsense. I don’t mean to hammer Rod, but all this means is that he left Jesus because of Judas. Grave error.
English

@JoshuaBarzon @FrMatthewLC @redeemed_zoomer It's difficult to keep track of all the ways this post and the response communicates a total lack of understanding about how the Catholic system works compared with Protestant denominations. Unless there's a Lutheran/Pres/Baptist/Anglican/etc. communion of which I'm unaware.
English

@FrMatthewLC Hey @redeemed_zoomer , tell Matt what you told me about your experiences with Roman Catholic denominations.
English

The say "I don't understand Catholic religious communities" without saying "I don't understand Catholic religious communities" challenge has a winner.
Josh claims we each "function just like denominations."
I'm literally the member of 1 community (Legionaries of Christ) teaching at a seminary of another community (Missionaries of the Holy Apostles) who regularly quotes the wisdom of a founder of a 3rd (Catherine Doherty of Madonna House).
On top of this, we are all Catholic subjects of the Pope, etc. while denominations are so different.
