Respect Yourself First. Because the way you treat yourself sets the standard for how others treat you. When I started my business, there was this big lady who started patronizing me. She would bring several wigs for revamping and would price a ridiculous amount for all. I spent months tolerating her nonsense. She would constantly devalue my craft, cut my pay sometimes and demanded extra labor without compensation. I would sometimes ask myself why she kept coming back if she isn't satisfied with my service. I tolerated her that long out of fear, believing I needed her for my business to thrive. One evening, after she threw a beautifully styled wig to the ground and demanded i remake it for free, I quietly picked it up, wrapped it for her and asked her to leave my shop. She stood there for minutes wondering what she was hearing. I told her point blank never to come to my shop again. I was done with her nonsense. Funny thing is, she still patronize me till today but has never devalued my work after that day. I charge her more than I charge my average customers and she dares not complain.
