We now know that QI initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary x-rays in children presenting to EDs should target and adapt their interventions to EM physicians practicing in EDs primarily treating adult patients.

We found that x-ray use was ⬆️ in providers trained in adult settings. This could result from differences in training/experience, or cognitive biases caused by the fact that adults presenting to EDs are sicker and more likely to have abnormal x-ray findings than children. 7/X
