Whether you agree with the ruling or not, one thing has become very clear over the past few decades and much more so the past 6 months: one branch of government is quickly accumulating power and the other two are forfeiting their own.

@BadLegalTakes The number of justices is by legislation. It supposed to be based on the number of circuits, but we never changed that. We have 13 circuits but only nine justices. We’ve not always had nine justices.

@WalshFreedom @WalshFreedom, what does the working class want? What changes do they want? What outcomes are they seeking? This feels like Brexit in that regard. Is it really about what Trump is advocating for? Or is it more symbolic and nebulous that would be almost impossible to counter.

A friend called me this morning, despondent, and asked me what happened. “Here’s what happened,” I said. “A demagogue who lies to & inflames working class America defeated a political party that is dismissive of & doesn’t understand working class America. That’s what happened.”

Earl Warren waited to retire until 1968 when it was already clear LBJ would be out in January. LBJ nominated Abe Fortas. The nomination ran into trouble, LBJ ran out of time, Nixon got to pick the next chief justice.

I don’t like Trump. But the fact that the Republican Party just decisively won the White House, took the Senate, and might get control of the House should invite more soul-searching other than “my fellow Americans are ignorant.” Continue doing this at your peril.
Mehdi Hasan@mehdirhasan

It’s actually the reverse, of course. The only way a convicted criminal, found liable for sexual abuse, who incited an armed insurrection could win again is because millions of Americans live in an information bubble and believe things that are manifestly and demonstrably untrue.

@NoahCRothman Or is it just Trump? Would any other candidate succeed under the exact same circumstances with the exact same baggage? If we are in a populist moment, then that is exclusively centered around Trump. What he appears to represent is larger than who he is or what he’s done.

Was it the economy? The border? Biden? “Wokeness?” The answer is “yes,” overdetermined though Democrats’ implosion may be. Still, “Putting every assumption on the table for debate would impose some humility on a party that struggles to speak to voters like fellow human beings.” nationalreview.com/2024/11/can-de…

These are serious questions, and important ones. At first blush, I find Trump's apparent foreign policy and contempt for the national-security state appealing, but much of it is belied by his first term in office and the blank check he writes for the military-industrial complex.
WikiLeaks@wikileaks

Some questions for @realDonaldTrump: 1. How will you handle the so-called deep state “wolves in MAGA hats” circling your transition team, posing as MAGA to obtain powerful positions in a prospective Trump administration? After all, personnel is policy.

Trump: Those Penn state guys, I wanted them to wrestle the migrants. I told the Dana White. I told him to set up his league of champions and a migrant league. I want the migrant to go against the champion. I think migrant might win. That’s how nasty some are
