I'm so glad this kid added the "not written with AI" tag at the end of one of my posts, as well as included "Lobos are the ones that duck competition" when nothing I wrote suggested UNM has ever had a strong strength of schedule. Grayson may not use AI to write, but maybe he should use it to help him understand what he's reading if he can't understand I think UNM's strength of schedule sucks just about every year. Grayson, you wrote UNM's "No. 1" reason for not going to the NCAA Tournament was SOS. I showed you that while their SOS basically always sucks, it's really one kept them out of the tournament once in the past quarter century. That isn't the same as me saying anyone is ducking anyone. It's me using this weird approach at conversation where I use facts and stats to make points, not reach deep into my ass and pull out whatever I can find then post it. But I'm glad you didn't use AI, brother!

@GeoffGrammer SDSU played Arizona and Michigan last year, Lobos played VCU. Lobos are the ones that duck competition (not written with AI)

I mean, sounds like a good thing to say, but they've pretty much gotten in when they were good and won a lot of games, regardless of SOS and not gotten in when they've had low-win seasons for the most part. In the Mountain West era (27 seasons, starting in 1999-2000), UNM has won 22 or more games 10 times and made the NCAA Tournament in seven of those seasons. Here are the only three years they had 22 or more wins on Selection Sunday and didn't get in the tourney: • In 2008, they had 24 wins on Selection Sunday, ranked 32 in KenPom and had a KenPom NCSOS of 269 and did not make it. I would agree their SOS was if not the main factor, it was one of the top reasons they went NIT. • In 2023, they won 22 games, were 66th in KenPom and SOS wasn't the reason they were left out. • This season, 23 wins on Selection Sunday, 50th in KenPom, 167 NCSOS. You might argue it was the 167 NCSOS that held them out, but their NET and KP and all other analytics had them pretty consistently outside the sweet spot of 40-45 range. None of this is an argument that UNM has had a great SOS. They haven't. I write about it every year when the schedule comes out. But I would tell in that in more than a quarter century of data, there is one, MAYBE 2 times that the SOS was actually what left them out of the NCAA Tournament.

Mark isn't wrong about any of this, as much as UNM fans want it to be true. SDSU has traditionally played a FAR tougher non-con than UNM. No denying facts. Also, UNM is better at elevation. SDSU is better at sea level. Makes sense. Teams are generally better in conditions they are used to and train in. That's part of what makes home court advantages (not only the GREAT FANS BOTH programs have). Sucks the rivalry is over. But Mark isn't wrong about any of the numbers. SDSU can (and does) make way better non-con schedules every year than UNM. There are some built in advantages to that (like teams won't answer UNM's calls, but are willing to do home and homes with SDSU). The power of whether or not to do a home-and-home series is absolutely in the hand of the program with the advantage in scheduling. SDSU has that for a variety of reasons, including past results in the non-con. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck for fans. And doesn't mean that the reason this series won't continue is in the court of SDSU. I don't entirely blame them from a straight basketball standpoint. But it is very much their decision not to continue.

And while we're on the subject on nonconference strength of schedule, SDSU ranked 44th last season. New Mexico was 147th.

With all due respect to the UFL and their vision. This is a money laundering scheme because why did I just see a play caller call read option during 2 minute drill. I’m done bro.
