After a decade producing TV news, I spent years sitting in rundown meetings deciding which stories made the show.
Now as a media strategist, I spend a lot of time thinking about the same question from the other side:
Why should anyone care about this today?

One of the biggest misconceptions about reporters:
They’re not looking for companies to write about.
They’re looking for stories their audience cares about.

Something I learned producing morning news:
Stories win the rundown when they answer “why should viewers care today?”
That question matters just as much in PR.

The best pitches I ever saw in a newsroom had one thing in common:
I understood the story in the subject line.

A PR tip from a former TV producer:
If your pitch needs three paragraphs of explanation before the actual news… it probably isn’t news yet.

Former newsroom producer now on the PR side:
The fastest way to get ignored by a reporter is still the same thing it was in the newsroom — pitching something that answers a question no one is asking today.

UPDATE: The MBTA says power has now been restored to the Green and Blue lines and most of the Orange Line after earlier issues.

Power just came back here at North Station after outages were reported earlier this morning, affecting the orange blue and green lines and causing major delays. MBTA now saying the power has been restored on the green and blue lines and most of the orange line. update on @NECN

WEA for City of Norwich: Norwich is issuing a MANDATORY EVACUATION order of all areas along the Yantic River from the Bozrah town line to the area of Backus Hospital due to dam conditions. There is NO evacuation of Backus Hospital. Kelly Middle School will be open as a shelter.
