Because HS is peers self sorting each other with zero regard for survival/resource provision. There’s no ulterior motive to the relationships. The friendships are real, the love is real. “Making it” in your 20’s and 30’s is a poor substitute for making it in your teens.

Friedrich Nietzsche famously struggled with math so much that his teacher of classical Greek had to step in just so he could get a passing grade. The reason for this is fairly straightforward actually; mathematics is linear intelligence, and not all brain architectures are optimized for linear thinking.
