Frieren, at its core, is a series that asks the viewer to embrace everything beautiful about life and the world around you. And I think that, if anything, is why this series has gotten the praise that it has from the critics. And rightfully so.
HIM'EL 🗡️ 勇者 #ThankYouMiura@BasedLEDA

Back when I first started Frieren Season 1, I got completely blown away. It wasn’t just because the main character is an adorable elf, though I’ll admit I have a soft spot for elves. What truly hit me were its beautiful themes and characters, and the gentle way it captures the beauty and ache of the passage of time. Our Frieren has all the time in the world as an immortal elf, yet she once drifted through centuries almost numb to it all. Then she met a human with so little time, and he lived every minute so fully that he left an indelible mark on her heart and on everyone around him. That’s how great our Himmel was. That’s why so many of us in the real world yearn to be even a little like him. He taught us to cherish every small moment of happiness and even the sadness with the people who are still here, because one day, when we’re old, those loved ones may be gone, but their memories stay with us. We carry them forward, and that way, we’re never truly alone. Even on our final breath, we can smile, knowing we lived a story worth remembering. Himmel wrote the story of his life in the quiet diary of his actions, the everyday adventures, the laughter with friends, the quiet acts of kindness. How can you not adore a tale that simply asks us to be good, to show up for the people we call family? Everyone faces tough times, but the strength to endure often comes from those who offer a shoulder to lean on or open arms for a hug. We all crave comfort when we’re sad and broken. A warrior built like iron, who still carried a soft heart and learned to be vulnerable with his friends because their bond was deep enough that he knew they wouldn’t laugh. I love Eisen so much for that. A priest who drank too much to drown his worries and sometimes called himself corrupt, yet always had his heart in the right place, he protected the innocent and offered quiet guidance. My drunk priest Heiter. I adore him. And then there’s Frieren herself, the elf who had lost so much that she nearly stopped caring about existence, left only with regret and vengeance for her family. She was rescued by a human with a big heart who showed her the value of living for little moments and silly magic spells that could make a child smile. And Himmel... the false hero who was almost too good to feel real. Why did he need to be some grand chosen one??? He picked up a fake sword and set out with these broken souls, and together they defeated the Demon King. Evil still lingers in the shadows, of course, but Himmel’s good deeds echoed so far that even after his death, the world kept moving forward. Countless adventurers and false heroes grew up hearing his legends and chose to be kind because of him. The moment I realized that, it was already over for me. I fell completely in love with this story. It’s not perfect, but it feels so deeply human. Something in my chest starts beating faster whenever I think about trying to live even a little like Himmel. If I can do one good thing a day, no matter how small, it would be something he might have done. It sounds silly, but who cares?!?!!!! Being good feels good. I’d be lying if I said Frieren hasn’t changed me as a person, and I know so many others feel the same. In a world where a hero like Himmel once walked, it makes sense that some lost kids still get saved. But not everyone is that fortunate, and that’s when you feel how the world is still struggling to keep evil at bay. Fern carries deep grief from losing her family and her master. She’s serious, talented, and sometimes stern, but beneath it all is a girl who just wants connection. Then Stark joins the party who's still carrying heavy trauma from his village’s destruction and his own feelings of cowardice. He starts off a bit brash and avoidant, but Season 2 shows his growth beautifully. We see him step up in dangerous situations, like when the party falls into a mana canceling crystal cavern early in the season, where magic fails and Stark has to protect Frieren and Fern...
