🏝 Our next #RealityResort Kickstarter campaign launches in 24 hours! 🔗 Follow the pre-launch page: kickstarter.com/projects/reali… We often get a lot of questions about why we need to run these campaigns; why episodes take so long to produce; why can't we work faster; where does the money go? So, we'd like to take the time to answer these questions and provide some insight into what it takes to run an independently animated project. Each episode of Reality Resort costs anywhere between 4-5 figures to produce and takes roughly 12-16 weeks from start to finish. That includes writing, voiceover, storyboarding, animation, music & sound design and post-production. Those numbers - both cost and timeline - are well below industry standards. That’s the upside and downside of being an indie production. We run lean and move quickly, but it’s still expensive and time-intensive. I (Cove, creator) have not made a profit from this project. The money raised goes directly toward paying the team and covering production expenses. If YouTube ad revenue could sustain this, we most likely wouldn’t be running campaigns. We are incredibly grateful for our Patreon supporters. Patreon gives us stability, but at its current level, it realistically funds one, maybe two episodes per year. Kickstarter allows us to generate the larger bursts of funding needed to keep production moving at a faster and more consistent pace. It also gives people the option to support in bigger, less frequent contributions rather than a monthly commitment. We made Episode 1 solely through personal funds; there were no long-term guarantees. The only reason we continued after Ep1 was because of a promised financial partnership that ultimately fell through after a few months. With significant personal funds already invested, we turned to Kickstarter to see if continuing was even possible. The response to those two campaigns - YOUR support - is what told us this was worth pursuing! But we cannot start full production on new episodes without knowing we can pay the team. It’s also too large of an ask to fund an entire season at once (we tried!). Funding a few episodes at a time has proven to be the most realistic and responsible way forward. If we’re able to move forward with the series beyond Resort, we’ll reassess and evolve our funding approach. This project exists because of passion, not because it’s financially easy. We wouldn’t be asking for support if we had the money sitting around. So, thank you for being here, for helping us keep this going and for asking thoughtful questions.
