Before this #FernFriday vacation in Taiwan, we had a productive week for pteridologists, with interesting fern talks, discussions, and fieldwork! New fern spore projects, cool Hymenasplenium gametophytes, new HGTs in fern plastomes, & one more time for Tectaria leaf dimorphism!

#FernFriday Had a great week with Yone @yoneoka1915hap in the field! We successfully collected seven Hymenasplenium spp. in Taiwan for the exciting fern gametophyte project. Looking forward to seeing the results from these fascinating materials soon!

#FernFriday Just DNA-confirmed that these whitish, coral-like organisms are indeed gametophytes of Ophioderma—the epiphytic Adder’s tongue ferns! Super exciting this time finding even more mysterious myco-heterophytic fern gametophytes!
