From politicians to press and professors, mostly those whose own children study in the world's best universities in Europe and America or pursue high-salary careers in the corporate world, have taught Kashmir's post-1990 underdog generation that there's "nothing wrong, nothing illegal" in celebrating Pakistan's victory or India's loss in a cricket match and shouting "jeeve jeeve Pakistan" slogan. Two years ago, medical students at a hostel in Srinagar did an euphoric demonstration for Pakistan which went viral on social media. An inquiry was ordered but it didn't find "any incriminating evidence" and there was no action. Now there are complaints and reports of a group of veterinary science students at a SKUAST-K college near Srinagar having celebrated "India's defeat" by Australia in the World Cup final last week. Reportedly seven Kashmiri students have been booked and arrested under UAPA for such an alleged demonstration and "causing fear and intimidation" to the non-Kashmiri students on their complaint. A number of Kashmiri students have already suffered and paid huge prices for such demonstrations outside Kashmir. This is how the poor Kashmiri children are encouraged on the path of destruction and how their future and careers are ruined even in 2023. Academic discussions on law and democracy on 'X', in TV studios or courtrooms will not save their future. Obviously, an era of permissiveness to such acts has expired and these will not be condoned every time. The reality is that every poor Kashmiri will pay a price for such acts and nobody from the elite preachers of democracy will come to their rescue. If Pakistan still needs such demonstrations to keep herself happy, these should be held in Delhi's JNU, in Arab countries, Europe and America, not in Kashmir.

Sadly at least 36 passengers, mostly non-J&K brick kiln labourers, have died in a major road accident when their bus JK02CN-6555 skidded off the road and rolled down into a 500 ft deep ravine near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar highway in Doda, Jammu. Unconfirmed reports put the number of the dead at 39. This mishap has taken place in an area infamous for such accidents.
