Just a friendly reminder that it doesn't take much to do athletic activities with your kids...while I can't guarantee your kid will get a scholarship or become a pro, i can guarantee that improving coordination and balance will help them better navigate the world around them and time spent outside having fun with your kids is time well spent. #LTAD

Over the past few years, this little low box series greatly expanded from a couple movements into about 30 different movements and combinations. (Still growing the more i play with it) At 48 years old, I want to continue to be able to move athletically in a variety of different ways. Sometimes, I move for on command, for reps, for time etc. With varied rest periods and tempos. For a guy who doesn't enjoy jogging these types of movement really work well. #LTAD

Years ago, in a galaxy far far away, children, many of them aspiring young athletes, would spend their summer days and after school pre-dusk hours playing outside in backyards, sandlots, woods, and playgrounds across America. These marathon sessions of movement allowed children to develop many basic physical skills. Games like tag and kick the can involved sprinting and numerous changes of speed and direction. Climbing trees or wrestling with friends developed total body strength and body awareness. Riding bikes or running on trails through the woods provided very sufficient cardiovascular benefits. As the children experienced more of these activities, this foundation of physical skills grew and expanded. When the time was right as these children grew older they would use this physical foundation as a platform to learn and master more complex movements like the skills found in sports like baseball, football, soccer and basketball etc. Children played many sports throughout the school year, and summertime was for vacation and camps. The words A.C.L. reconstruction or Tommy John surgery were literally non-existent because young athletes were hardly ever exposed to one activity long enough to cause overuse problems... #LTAD

My children always eye-roll and comment on how I ‘talk to everyone’, such as the person who works in the local shop. They are right - I like small talk. Exchanging micro expressions like smiling and saying hello are acts of kindness and an acknowledgement of our shared humanity.

Strength and Conditioning for young athletes is: About building a wide foundation of movement skills not about copying or mimicking a college strength and conditioning program Its about engaging the young athlete through a positive learning environment Not about yelling, standing in line and lecturing About basic instructions, teaching skill sets and then applying those skill sets through movement exploration Not about drilling and having every athlete look like a robot About movement games to put skill into practice Not about serious practice with no games about how to learn to exercise for a lifetime of health and fitness Not about elite development Its about training in an age appropriate manner Not about training like the pros #LTAD
