Susan and I have spent the day with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other community members who were involved in the tragic shooting episode that took place in Michigan on Sunday.   The devotion of these faithful members makes me want to be more devoted, and the faithfulness of these good people makes me want to be more faithful.   They have the capacity—because of the eternal perspective of the gospel of Jesus Christ—to learn lessons in tragedy in mortality that prepare them for eternal life.   We are familiar with the admonition that we should mourn with those that mourn. There are broken hearts here in Michigan. My invitation to any and all is to continue to pray for these good people.

Today is resurrection Sunday. Jesus’ body has been in the tomb for 38 or 40 hours - Friday evening to Sunday morning - 3 days as the Jews measured time. Mary Magdalene, still grieving, felt compelled to see Him. She walked to the tomb in the early morning, while it was still dark, with spices to prepare His dead body. She arrives to see the stone had been removed from the tomb. Mary is shocked. One account says she ran to tell Peter and others to come and see. They all come to the empty tomb. All of them believe His body has been stolen - forgetting that He had told them He would raise himself from the dead. They all leave except Mary, who stayed at the tomb, crying. Once again, just like at the cross, Mary would not leave His presence. An angel appears to Mary and asked her why she was weeping. Mary says because someone has taken the body of her Lord. The angel replies: He is not here, for He is risen. As He said. Mary is stunned. She sees another Man, who she thinks is the gardener. This Man also asks Mary why she is weeping. She begs the Man to tell her where He has moved the body. The Man replies with one word: “Mary.” At this moment Mary knew. It was Jesus. Mary becomes the first witness of the resurrection. But not the last. Jesus then shows himself to his closest friends. He eats with them again. He asks them to feel His hands and side (which were both pierced). He fished with them again. He walked with them again. These witnesses of the resurrection recorded their stories for all to read. Christians believe this event - resurrection Sunday - is the crowning event of human history. For the first time Man had overcome death. And even more importantly, this resurrection meant that Jesus had done exactly what was necessary to reconcile man to God. Two impossible problems prevent us from returning to God and obtaining eternal life. Those two things are sin and death. But these impossible problems were solved by the same person, Jesus. By living a sinless life and voluntarily sacrificing himself, He overcame sin, and created a way for the destroying angel to “pass over” each of us by following Him. And by being resurrected he overcomes death as well. As a result, we can all inherit eternal life if we choose to. Happy Easter.

Today is Good Friday. Last night, Jesus took his closest 12 friends to a quiet room to have the last supper. He washed their feet. He told them He knew one of them would betray Him. They couldn’t believe it. Then He walks out into a garden to pray. He feels a tremendous amount of pain, so much that He bleeds from his pores. An angel appears to comfort Him. A group of men approach Him to arrest Him. Judas kisses Him on the cheek to identity Jesus to the group. Peter tries to protect His friend and cuts off one of the ears of the mom members. Jesus heals the ear. Jesus is arrested. The mob takes Him to be tried. He is found guilty in a sham trial. He is whipped. Spat on. A crown of thorns is placed on His head. It is decided He will be crucified. The mob is thirsty for His blood. There is a custom to release a prisoner. The crowd votes on either releasing Jesus (who is guiltless), or Barabbas, who was guilty of murder and robbery. The symbolism here is important. One man - clearly guilty - whose name, barabbas literally means “son of a father” - represents each of us. Another man, Jesus, is innocent. One deserves death. The other does not. The undeserving Jesus is killed, and the guilty goes free. We are all a “son of a father”. Barabbas. Judas, full of shame from his betrayal, hangs himself. Jesus hangs on a cross for approximately 6 hours. In pure agony. Soldiers mock him. Mary, his mother, and Mary Magdalene, his most loyal follower, watch in sorrow. After 6 hours, Jesus says a few final sentences, each of which is worth studying deeply, and dies. They take His body to a tomb, thinking it was all over. Jesus has finally been destroyed. His followers will just go away now. It’s done. No one had conquered death before. So the story is over now, they think. Good Friday is called "good" because Christians believe it was on this day that Jesus Christ, through his crucifixion, offered the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity, leading to salvation and redemption.

I remember never even considering Spanish Fork when we were looking for a place to build our forever home. As soon as we drove through the neighborhood both my wife and I felt drawn here. We ended up going way over budget to settle in a location that felt like home before we even knew anyone. Now I’m going to have a temple that I can see out of my window and have the greatest ward and neighborhood in the world. Some things are meant to be ❤️

It's a better idea to restore this rather than buy virtually any new vehicles... They are pretty much all garbage these days.

Not only do I miss Priesthood Session I miss going to the stake center to watch it with everyone and going out for ribs after. Some of my favorite memories as a young priesthood holder
