In my nostalgia I recalled that when KSHE 95 in St. Louis picked up The @bobandtom Show in syndication my senior year in high school, they replaced a local morning DJ called "The Bird" that we made fun of constantly, does anyone else remember this

@deesnider I seem to remember some quote from maybe Tommy Lee (or Ozzy?) to the effect of “yeah we party but …. how is that dude still alive?!”

If I ever “made it” in any sense it was largely because (like many other up and coming comics) I was able to make this particular man laugh, the sound of which will always be a happy memory. RIP Bob, you will be greatly missed. Love to your family.
The BOB & TOM Show@bobandtom

It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of Bob Kevoian, beloved co-founder and longtime host of The Bob & Tom Show, who passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Details regarding memorial services will be shared at a later time.

Surprising use of Spooky Tooth in the “DTF St. Louis” soundtrack. Does this show tacitly admit the existence and presence of KSHE 95?

What about a remake of Jason Bourne but he doesn’t have a penis and can’t remember why he doesn’t

One of the reasons that Saturday Night Fever is one of my favorite films ever made is that the dance sequences are so good that no one ever remembers anything else about the movies besides them, so parents will want to introduce their kids to this beloved dance film from their childhoods, play it on a Friday night with the whole family, and then accidentally scandalize their children with a movie stuffed full of racism, homophobia, hate crimes, and extreme sexual violence. That’s a truly subversive or “crypto transgressive” artwork.

@renegade_Kathy Cool next you should read the responses to this book by Jewish scholars of the Holocaust — one a survivor himself — who tore it to shreds as misleading and shoddy scholarship

I'm reading Goldhagen's "Hitler's Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust." It's essential reading for our times. Goldhagen takes on the half-truths that surround so much teaching around the Holocaust: that it demonstrated "man's inhumanity to man," conformity, cowardice or bureaucratism, or the advent of industrialized mass murder. While there's truth to much of this, it disappears two critical things: that the perpetrators had agency, and that the victims were Jews. Those who murdered the Jews -- often ordinary Germans, not Nazis -- did so because they didn't believe it was wrong. Jews had been so thoroughly dehumanized, through decades if not centuries of antisemitism, that these Germans believed in what they were doing. They weren't "just following orders." It's impossible not to read this without reflecting on the dehumanization of Jews, camouflaged as "Zionists," running wild today. Once again society is obsessed with the tiny Jewish people. Once again it's the intellectual class leading the charge that "Zionists" are uniquely noxious. And once again Jews, in the form of "Zionists," "settlers" or "Israelis," are identified with evil itself -- so that ordinary, ostensibly upright people will blanch at nothing to eliminate them.

Sabrina Carpenter comes under fire for saying an audience member's ululation (zalghoota), a traditional celebratory vocalisation common in Arab and North African cultures, for yodelling and repeatedly calling it "weird" during her Coachella set.

Today, the notoriously picky TSA at Bradley Airport in Connecticut confiscated a container of fresh hummus. "Hummus?! Why?" asked the traveler. "Hummus is not a mysterious liquid. It’s a nutritious popular vegetable!" "Doesn’t matter," was the rejoinder. "Either leave the line with it or it goes into the garbage." So now add hummus to the list of national security perils. Maybe ground broccoli will be next. Absurdity reigns! -R
