That's because my personal Substack (davidhundeyin.substack.com) is a completely separate entity to West Africa Weekly. WAW started off on Substack, but the moment you guys invested in 2023, you made it very clear that WAW would be a standalone website (westafricaweekly.com) and the Substack platform would revert to me, which is why I changed the name from 'westafricaweekly.substack.com' to 'davidhundeyin.substack.com.'
Yes, I have 160 paid subscribers there, which is the sole result of the sweat of my own brow, without your help or involvement. I built that subscriber base while writing dangerous stories inside a safe house in Central Accra with armed police patrolling outside. Were you bunch of barawos under the impression that you were entitled to what I built without you that was not covered by the purchase agreement? What did you think you were paying for? A slave?
I left WAW since last year and I didn't make a song and dance about it, but since you people want to behave like a scorned ex on the internet, let me remind you that I still own half of this company, and in fact I still control many of its digital assets. Its Instagram page is literally under my personal Meta accounts centre. Ditto its LinkedIn page. I took these screen recordings less than 10 minutes ago showing that as of right now, I still have full access to the WordPress backend, Zoho email suite and Zoho Cliq workplace.
If you "disengaged" me for "financial irresponsibility", kindly explain why I still have full access to all of your backends? Because you know what actually happened - I left WAW to found The Spearhead in August 2025, and you are angry because everything useful about the platform left with me, including its 2 best reporters, and in just 6 months of operation, we have created much better material and outperformed post-2023 WAW by every metric available.
You know that I was right about everything. I was right about pivoting away from Nigerian news and Obidient-slop to focus on more important African geopolitical content. I was right about investing real money in creating visual content. I was right about looking beyond Nigeria for an audience. I was right about hiring a full time Sahel reporter. I was right about the fact that you needed to let go of the dream of WAW becoming a mainstream media outlet making money the conventional Nigerian media way, because the gatekeepers would never let you in simply based on the platform's association with me. I was right about boosting reporters' pay instead of expecting miracles from somebody's child whom you're paying N110,000/month to be a field reporter in Lagos.
And now, instead of accepting that I was right about everything and that you know nothing about journalism or media business, your petulant response to your own horrible failure is to try to throw mud on my name and to destroy the platform in the process - a platform that you did create and whose value you cannot possibly understand because you're so poor that all you have is money.
Well, you can't destroy a reputation that you didn't build. Many before you have tried. You won't be the last. The Mayowa and Kangmwa that you used to mock for being broke and unpolished have now traveled and seen the world perhaps more so than you have. They now create great material that the whole world now sees and engages with. You're still there paying people peanuts and looking for NNPC advert gigs that you will never get.
Like many diasporans, once you have some small $5 in your pocket, you think everyone back home should kneel before you. After dealing with racism and insults to make your 2 kobo in Houston, you now come to reflect the same energy back to your people in Lagos because that makes you feel good about your life. Whatever floats your boat.
But from the bottom of my heart, I don't care. I am better than you and there's nothing you can do about it.
My offer remains open: if you can, buy me out and do what you want with WAW.
I have moved on.

Abazz is many things, but you can never say he doesn’t have integrity. The guy called him out on the first day, and he was dragged to hell and back. He apologized. He sent out the jerseys, which were 20k each and it includes the delivery fee. He explained everything to the guy in the DMs, but the guy still decided to bring it back to the timeline. Why can’t you have that conversation in the DM? Same way a guy was sent 5kg of rice for a giveaway, and he said a sealed bag is not complete.

After seeing the genuine feedback from some winners about the jerseys delivered, and everyone opinion on this, I’ve decided to make this right in the simplest way possible.
- Firstly, I admit i messed it all up with the first action of picking winners which isn’t in my position but I’ve apologized for that. Once again, to the whole public, I have admitted and corrected my steps.
- The 10 jerseys already sent were the lighter Player Version I sourced, but it’s clear they didn’t match what many expected for this giveaway. That’s on me.
To fix it completely:
option 1: i am willing to send the whole N300k to @_Abdulakeem_ so he can pick any vendor of his choice to get the jerseys for the winners he picked
option 2: I am willing to refund the full amount received per jersey (₦20k including delivery) directly to every winner who has received one,
- Those who have received it can return the jerseys with delivery fee on me. (I will fund the redelivery back to me)
- The winners can then source their choice of jerseys from any vendor of their choice.
so the remaining 5 will not be shipped instead, those winners will also get the cash equivalent.
Either of the options he picks is cool with me.

This version of the jersey you wore is what is called the “Fan version” of the jersey. If you know about jerseys well, they made it breathable. That’s why you can see visible holes on it, while the player version is less breathable because they want to reduce other players dragging another player, with waterproof elements and comfort for the player.

Update on the Jerseys Giveaway Good evening everyone, As of this morning, I have successfully dispatched 10 out of the 15 jerseys courtesy of @victorosimhen9. This is because @_abdulakeem_ has so far shared the list of 10 winners with me since Thursday. The remaining 5 will be sent out immediately once he provides the full details. Out of the 10 dispatched: - 4 recipients are in Lagos. - I have confirmed safe delivery for 3 of them. - The 4th recipient wasn’t available at the time of delivery, so I personally connected him with the rider over a call to arrange pickup. All deliveries are being handled with care across Lagos and different cities according to the location of whoever he picks. On the feedback about the fabric: These are the official Player Version jerseys — the lighter, more breathable material designed for on-pitch performance (same grade used by professionals). They are not the heavier fan/replica versions. one of the winner have expressed dissatisfaction on the preference saying they want thicker style but these are the jerseys I won’t put fake out there. The jersey’s been delivered are sold at that price as I did not add or deduct neither did I change the quality I’m committed to makingsure every winner receives exactly what meets their expectations. I appreciate everyone’s understanding as we wrap this up smoothly. I’ll keep you updated on the final 5.
