@sampeoples_ So what? If he’s the right player for the next 7–10 years, he’s worth it. We’ve paid more for worse players before. Instead, we’ll probably end up buying two average midfielders for more in transfer fees and wages.

@terryflewers If Tottenham win the race for him, it’s another sign of how incompetent our board is. We finished third and got Champions League football, yet we can’t attract a player coming off his breakthrough season over a club that finished 17th. Embarrassing.

@sampeoples_ No legit journalist ever reported that he only wants Man United. Where did you get this from? Fab and Ben have said he will go to the club that can do a deal with West ham. He doesn’t favor us.

Find it interesting that both United and Spurs are confident about signing Fernandes. Feel its because their confidence is coming from different places - Spurs confident they will pay more and therefore sign him, feel United are confident Fernandes wants to join us and us alone. Someone's going to be disappointed.

@bethTmufc He’s playing against a shit team. Don’t hype him up more than what he deserves. He’s average and his price just went up to 60£ M!

@UnitedStandMUFC @sistoney67 And the BS starting to come out. What about Spurs? How are they able to bid 100£ M for Tonali and already bought a player for 52£ M? They are not even in CL.

🗣️ @sistoney67 on Man United's financial position compared to other big teams this summer: "Manchester United are a rich football club but you have to bear in mind reality. The reality is that they've just played a season without any European football. If you go back the last five or six years, they've not made anything like the amounts of money that say Man City have, Liverpool and Arsenal clearly. That leaves you in a weakened position compared to one where you could go out and just buy who you want to buy." [@UnitedStandMUFC]

@sampeoples_ They are desperate and will overpay. I am so worried right now! We are missing on our key targets. Eliot, Tonali, Tchoumini and now Fernandes. This is not the Summer I was waiting for. I honestly thought we would get Eliot and Tonali. But one of our biggest rivals will get them

United very much wanting Fernandes to do what Mbeumo did last summer and make it clear he only wants to join United, but I doubt Mendes lets that happen so they keep more control. Can’t seriously be worried about Fernandes choosing Spurs? Would be worried about them willing to overpay though seeing as they paid £52m for Van Hecke with 1 year left.

🚨 Tottenham Hotspur among clubs keen on signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United - separate to #THFC pursuit of Sandro Tonali. Interest driven by Roberto De Zerbi; wants #WHUFC talent as well as #NUFC midfielder. W/ @DTathletic @SebSB @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/73416…

@markgoldbridge I keep seeing the same pattern with our recruitment: when we need to get back into Europe, we spend big on quality players. Once we’re there, we settle for average signings just to stay there. It’s happened under multiple coaches over the years.

Semenyo, Anderson, Diomonde, Rogers, Tonali. It's slightly concerning how frequently United are walking away from players on price. Sometimes you have to pay what it takes or you fall behind. How long until we walk away from Hall?

@unitedpeoplestv I would absolutely agree if it was about any other player. But this guy is exactly what we have been missing for the last 13 years, and I would only overpay for this one. He’s a generational player and will be the next Rodri for the next 10 years. How can’t you see it??

@markgoldbridge WTF do you thing they have been doing for several months? So they have been talking to him and his agent and the guy chose City. If he doesn’t want to come to United why would they bid for him.

"We only want players who want United!" What a dangerous & ridiculous transfer policy. Top players need persuading. It's why they are top players. Not bidding for players because they have other offers will never lead to best in class recruitment

@JacobsBen Honestly we can hate as much as we want, but this guy is worth every penny. City will pay the record fee and they will get the next Rodri for the coming 10 years.

Manchester City remain optimistic they can strike a deal for Anderson to join this summer despite Nottingham Forest’s demands.⬇️
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

🚨 Manchester City have made a bid totalling £121m for Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest. Guaranteed fee is £106m. Nottingham Forest are now asking for a British transfer record fee. #MCFC wanted to bid before the World Cup fearing Anderson’s price could rise further at the tournament. Manchester United view the cost as too high despite seeing Anderson as their dream target. They are in talks with Matheus Fernandes. Alex Scott and Carlos Baleba remain other names on their radar.

@bethTmufc If he desperately wants to go thief then he should lower his salary so Barca pays the 30M. If we don’t find another club then he should stay and don’t play. BIG club should do that.

I don't buy this Real Madrid interest in Fernandes. Jose has the same agent as the player so it would be done in no time if they wanted it done. May just all be games to get the price up

I don't understand the complaints about Manchester United not bidding for Elliot Anderson. Have people learned nothing from last summer, or the Frenkie de Jong saga? There is no point bidding for a player that has decided they do not want to join the club. City bid for Anderson because he has clearly indicated that he wants to go there. The reasons? Irrelevant. That is where he wants to go. In the transfer market you bid with encouragement to do so from the players' camp. Why would a meaningless bid be better? Sadly Anderson hasn't been in briefs for a little while now, it is becoming clear why that was. The club wanted him, did what they could & he picked someone else. That isn't a slight on their ambition. It's the reality that they can't compete with City's wages. It was the same with Antoine Semenyo. Money talks. Manchester United have not recovered financially from years of transfer & contract mistakes, they still have some on their books. It'll take more time & good season on good season to fix that. It is often the people complaining the loudest who either don't know how the game is played, or are being actively ignorant about it & don't want to learn.
