STATEHOOD OR LAWLESSNESS? The action taken against journalist Abdihafid is not a lawful arrest -its abduction. A legitimate arrest requires due process, a known place and formal notification 2 de family. Concealing a person’s whereabouts places the matter outside the rule of law.

For the Third Republic to survive, the political leaders meeting at Villa Somalia now must adopt the following three departure points: maintain the key components of the political settlement; no term extension; and no parallel process. This means returning to the old settlement and an improved and timely indirect election. BREAKING NEWS: Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by his son Abdifatah, has arrived at the residence of former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in #Mogadishu this evening [Sunday], a source told us moments ago. A growing rift is ongoing between the Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungaab), and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud over millions of dollars suspected to have been collected from Mogadishu as taxes and fees. Mr. Mungaab, a former military officer comes from armed clan. Mr. Mungaab was supposed to travel out of the country today but was stopped at #Mogadishu airport after President Hassan Sheikh reportedly contacted airport security. Sources say Mr. Mohamud wants control of all the money, while Mr. Mungaab insists on retaining it.

Climate reporting is about people, rights, and survival. We concluded a two-day journalistic training on climate change reporting for @sjs_Somalia network of reporters in #Somalia. The program strengthened journalists’ capacity to report on climate justice, ensuring that climate stories are not only told by informed reporters, but also reach communities who depend on accurate information to make critical decisions about their lives and livelihoods.

#MOGADISHU: @sjs_Somalia today launched another round of journalists training on climate change and climate justice, a topic that is often overlooked in the media in a time millions of our population are facing climate induced crises. @sjs_Somalia network of reporters from all over regions gathered to brain storm stories ideas, best practices and share information from region to region. We express our deepest concern about the kidnapping of citizens including displaced persons, people with disabilities and minority communities into the Thursday so-called elections in Mogadishu under a total lock down. Journalists faced restrictions, threats and harassment including my colleagues. Perhaps you do not understand Somali language and you are yet to read any independent assessment report. But let me give my honest assessment: This is not going to make Somalia democratic and it will only worsen the security of Mogadishu and will lead to further fragmentation, distrust and division.
