@jchasedavis If you understand transhumanist thought, the goal for many is necromancy, communing with the dead. Ray Kurzweil has maintained a massive archive of his father’s writings for decades soley for the purpose of bringing him back to life when AI is sufficiently advanced.

The objection to this shouldn’t rest on arguments that would equally condemn photographs or voice recordings. Listening to music from a dead musician isn’t necromancy and neither is this. Listening to Nirvana is not communing with the spirit of Kurt Cobain. Just like reading a letter from your dead grandfather is not necromancy. The argument against this should be made that it is damaging to one’s soul to engage in it. It is categorically different, albeit similar, to other cultural and relational artifacts. In this case though, you short-circuit the natural end of human life which should point us to the resurrection from the dead.
