Trump called himself god? Well, you called him that first! Trump's posting of a Messiah meme is just the full expression of an energy that has been with MAGA for a decade. The 2016 Alt-Right celled him the "god-emperor," though that was a bit of a joke. But how many Trump voters have referred to him, with deadly seriousness, as their "savior," "protector," "last hope," etc.? Tucker Carlson, who's reportedly now Trump's biggest critic, characterized the 2024 election as "Daddy's home." Yes, Trump is a narcissistic megalomaniac—but that's what makes him a successful politician; that's what makes him interesting. The problem, really, is that MAGA has always wanted a figure like Trump to come save them—a quick and easy salvation, which requires no sacrifice on their part. These are exactly the type of "marks" that are desperately begging to be conned by someone like Trump. They want to be taken in by the illusion of "Making America Great Again" like drunks attending a magic show. In his "heretical" Truth social post, Trump has finally given the people what they really want. If they are offended by it, they should be offended by themselves.

@camhigby Cam, ask yourself why Trump and the White House have no problem posting casual blasphemy yet impose laws against and bring the hammer down on anything that can be slightly construed as antisemitism.

For everyone tweaking at my last post: I support Trump, and I spend 8 hours a day defending him. I will not defend blasphemy. Just correct it and move on. You don’t have to defend it. You don’t have to stop supporting him because you call it out. God > politics.
