During our latest MLB Fan Council meeting we talked all things ABS Challenge System, including new rules this year. Some of the details - especially the random behind-the-scenes stuff - are things most fans probably haven’t heard. Here’s what we learned:

MLB said it will ultimately judge the success of the ABS Challenge System by one main question: Does it get more people to watch baseball? That’s really what all of these rule & technology changes are about - more action, faster games & keeping fans engaged. Thoughts?

@dooberwoober01 @BaseballGuyRyan @anne__rogers All of that is understood. Led the MLB in saves last year, you give him a chance that’s not insane. Writing on the wall sure, but you give your closer the closing chance until he’s shows he can’t be your closer. Someone could have been up in the pen, only miscue.

@NotARightFieldr @BaseballGuyRyan @anne__rogers He’s down 5 mph. The writing was on the wall, he’s not ready yet for one reason or another. Not a good idea to let your closer get right mid game, also should’ve been taken out as soon as they saw he didn’t have it. Now it’s a whole big thing when it could’ve been avoided

Carlos Estévez is in a boot this morning and will have his ankle contusion reevaluated, but manager Matt Quatraro said he would be “surprised” if Estévez would be available today. If he were, Quatraro said “we would not be averse to putting him in a lower-leverage situation.”

@BaseballGuyRyan @dooberwoober01 @anne__rogers Of that note, Estevez is the CL but he has to know he has two guys hot in his tail if he doesn’t perform. At least I hope that’s what management thinks.

I understand I’m a Q fan and most aren’t. But only two managers had back to back winning seasons for the Royals in the last (I forget) years. It’s Q and Yost He won more games than he lost in 2025 with THAT opening day lineup 26th!! In run scoring last year, and went 82-80!!!!!

I don’t understand all of the Q hate. Estevez saved the most games in the MLB last season. He should have pitched that 9th inning. Yes his numbers in spring are concerning, but that’s your guy and you give him that chance. With still low velo, you reevaluate.
