The Ōtaki-Levin highway was killing a lot of people at 100kmh. After Ardern Govt cut speed to 80kmh, the dying stopped. Then Luxon Govt increased the speed limit on the highway for culture war reasons. And people starting dying again. greenpeace.org/aotearoa/story…

I get that the polls are panic-inducing, but trying to smear the other guy by leaning into anti-vax narratives & undermining public trust in government leadership during crisis seems shortsighted
& focusing on minutiae from 5 years ago looks out of touch with the current crisis

it's very strange that, in the middle of the world's worst energy crisis in half a century, the government's focus is on when the leader of the opposition received a paper about covid vaccine for teenagers - something that has manifestly been not only fine, but a huge positive.

The damage has been done over decades and any solution will take a long time OR have a massive impact if we want to solve it quickly. Likely economic crashes.

it's not "communism" for the government to prevent market failure of a vital good where demand exceeds supply. The government does it all the time.

when there's a limited amount of an essential good, price is a terrible, costly allocation tool -it can't create more fuel, only lock the poorest out of the market -it prioritises $, not value to the country -it forces everyone to pay the super high price needed to destroy demand
