Three things can be true at the same time: - Recognizing modern Stoicism as a farce. - Acknowledging the merits of Stoicism. - Not needing to be a Stoic to understand both. Most people think that by admitting the second, the third must be false.

I have heard that for Homer and Plato and Aristotle and other wise greeks, honor before honourable men was the goal of the exercise of virtue — But here comes Christ, warning that if we so much as remember whatever good deeds we've done, they stand a chance of losing their worth.

In the Exodus account, the beholding of the divine glory is not only the goal of salvation; it os also the way to salvation. -Khaled Anatolios, Deification Through the Cross, 104

@gagemurphy777 We should consider that in the Torah, bodily fluids made one unclean. Jesus perhaps had that in mind when he made this utterance. He also says elsewhere that the eye is the window to the soul, the light of the body, and it's opacity determines the amount of light therein

Every great literature has always been allegorical — allegorical of some view of the whole universe. The Iliad is only great because all life is a battle, the Odyssey because all life is a journey, the Book of Job because all life is a riddle.

@suzania Why are alot of westerners are so self-assured of how morally upright they are? A little bit introspection and of exploration in the world will show how much evil reside within us and how much of it been released is dependent upon the catalyst of changing external conditions.

The funny structure of human grief is the constant tension between trying to pretend that nothing matters and random paroxysms of profound weeping.

If knowledge of the Trinity is required to be aware of God, then nobody was aware of God before the Incarnation. This is nonsense. The Christian must hold that Mankind has been aware of God even before the coming of Christ, because the Incarnation loses its gravitas otherwise.

If you want the conversion of Muslims, begin by sanctifying your own house. Go to Mass. Go to confession. Receive the Eucharist. Dress modestly. Speak of the Gospel. The early Christians did not conquer the pagan world by the sword, but by holiness, martyrdom, and truth. If we want others to recognize Christ, they must first see Christ living in us.
