All machines are now back online. Apologies for the longer-than-expected downtime. Unfortunately, hosting providers aren't always serious.

PartsBox servers are undergoing hardware maintenance, and the service is not available. Expected downtime is less than 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, our cloud provider is taking longer than expected to do the maintenance.

Hardware maintenance will be performed on PartsBox servers on 2024-06-15 at 8:00am UTC. The service will not be available, planned downtime is less than 30 minutes.

All done, things should also run a little faster from now on!

You can now share your electronic parts database (all of it, or a filtered subset of your parts) as a public webpage. Try it out in Settings|Publishing! This is what the result looks like: partsbox.com/u/pbxdemo/parts

@abhijit86k The best way would be to pick a unit (say, cm or g) and add stock in that unit, to avoid fractions. So 1m of cable would be 100 units in stock.

@PartsBoxIO is there a good way to handle non-countable items - e.g. Wire/cables, or other bulk items that can be measured in length or weight?

My Glasgow from @1bitsquared just arrived and I'm impressed. Little things that matter: labeled cables, symmetric identical A/B ports. Big things that matter: I was able to run the software on the first try. That doesn't happen often. Thanks @whitequark @awygle @marcan42!

Did you know: You can now archive old projects instead of deleting them. Archiving hides a project from view while retaining all its data and build history. The project won't appear in the project table but can be accessed via direct links.

There is currently an outage, it's being investigated, the expected time to restore service is about 15-20 minutes.

@JLopas From my experience: more important than the numbering scheme is specifying which parts are equivalent (substitutes) and under which conditions. Numbering parts is easy, grouping them into meta-parts (in PartsBox) is decidedly non-obvious.

There's a point in every hardware company's lifecycle when they debate a part numbering scheme. A little-appreciated but very important primitive in the business.

@chrisgj198 I agree it would be very helpful, and I definitely intend to do it, I'm just not sure when I can get around to it, as it requires some careful design.

@PartsBoxIO I suppose I could export my data and put it on Google drive but it would be nicer to browse on your site.

@PartsBoxIO Can hobbyist users provide read-only access for their friends to view their inventory? Or to allow the public to view their inventory? Even better would be to be able to share a subset of inventory (and keep some private). Does this exist?
