I saw it like this. There are thousands if not millions of Astro mechs and protocol droids in the galaxy. iI’s quite logical he wouldn’t recognize them on sight. Think of this, if you saw your very first car on the road would you be like “That’s my car from 10th grade?” No, you would just see a Mitsubishi Eclipse and think nothing of it. Also.
