@LeoMontague91 Rayners tax evasion was illegal. Tice tax avoidance was legal. Very different stories. If you can legally avoid it, why would you willingly pay more tax to an incompetent government that will just waste the money anyway.

Rayner - accidentally avoided £40k in tax, repaid the money, had to resign. Tice - deliberately avoided £600k in tax, hasn’t repaid anything. 15x the money, infinitely more immoral. He’ll resign as an MP, right? He can just be a shadow MP going forward.

@Solosphere01 @RupertLowe10 @RichardBurgon We already saw what happens to people when they go with a corrupt judges decision instead of going to jury. All those people Starmer locked up for naughty words on twitter would never have been sentenced by a jury.

I’m not saying trumps innocent, but you have to be fair with what the evidence does and does not show. Any number of people could choose to make a false accusation . In the files themselves many of those excerpts have investigator notes that say things like “unreliable source, has schizophrenia and a history of false accusations”. There is nothing actually confirmed in the files and the follow up investigations that are documented led to the evidence being dismissed rather than corroborated. Of the times trump is mentioned in the files how many times is that from an unprovable source after he announced his presidential run? You would think if he really did something at least someonewould have made a claim before then he announced to run for president.

Your fear of being labelled a conspiracy theorist exceeds your desire for intellectual honesty. Do you still believe in the weapons of mass destruction… if not then you must believe your government lied to you to start a war killing millions and giving trillions to the military industrial complex. How do you hold that truth in your mind while simultaneously rejecting even the slightest chance they could be lying about 911. Your refusal to engage is cowardice.

Sure, I’ll concede that, but you’re still missing the point. You’re asking Tom to investigate something that’s already implicit. If YouGov’s results are a consistent outlier, then by definition their methodology must differ from everyone else’s. The question isn’t exactly how their methodology differs. The question is what the intention was behind that difference, which can’t be inferred from reading data tables or methodological notes. Any rational person can see that when a single pollster, widely perceived as politically left-leaning, persistently underestimates the right relative to dozens of others, it’s reasonable to question bias rather than dismiss it as an innocent technical difference in methodology.

@cezthesocialist @tomhfh How would he possibly be able to tell you that. Only yougov can explain their methodology and why it produces different results. Nothing wrong with pointing out something that’s either clearly a bad methodology or more likely intentional bias built into their samples

Aren’t you supposed to tell us that, journalist? I don’t know many specifics but each pollster uses a slightly different collection method, sometimes even different polls from the same pollster will use a different one, so there may be sampling bias that weighting cannot fully account for. Also some pollsters like FON choose to give more weight to people who didn’t vote in previous elections, which is where Reform is getting a lot of its voters from. YouGov is still one of the highest rated pollsters but for the most accurate picture, it’s probably best to look at weighted averages based on pollster quality and recency of the poll.

You don’t understand anything. Every problem that affects your life would be made worse by Green Party polices. You cry about wealth inequality but the biggest driver of poverty is allowing mass immigration from third world countries. The greens want to open to border to anyone which will only make you personally poorer and rob your children of opportunity to ow a home or have a career.

It’s because they believe a bunch of nonsensical propaganda and can’t think for themselves. They think the NHS needs immigrants. They don’t understand its immigration causing it to crumble. The average immigrant takes out more than they ever pay in. That’s an unsustainable. They complain about rent and living costs. They think the problem is capitalism and landlords, they don’t understand importing millions every year has forced prices up and trying to hit ridiculous net zero targets means food and energy will always be expensive. They have no opportunities to start their careers and are trapped in dead end jobs. They think wealth distribution and a bigger government will benefit them. They don’t understand its oversized government in the first place that has robbed them of the opportunities that only the private sector can provide.

Cannot work out why 18-24 year olds vote mostly Green and Labour. Youth unemployment is sky high since Labour came in. Unemployment is higher in general. Taxes are higher, life is more expensive, stamp duty is higher, etc. Are the youth generally that brainwashed? Doesn’t take much research online to see the mess Labour makes of things. Greens would be catastrophic too.

A Marxist could spend their energy working hard, building a career, and actually improving the world around them. Instead, they stand on street corners demanding other people's success pay for their lives while they contribute nothing of value. It was never about fairness; it’s just envy and bitterness wrapped in a veneer of compassion.

The claim that the Government was “taken to court and lost” is incorrect. The matter did not proceed to a court judgment. The statutory mechanism in question was withdrawn by the Government after receiving legal advice from King’s Counsel. Following that opinion, the proposed course of action was reconsidered and the process halted before any court ruling took place. This was not a case that was heard and won in court. It was a decision taken in light of senior legal advice, prior to judicial determination. The truth matters Nigel

We don’t have a revenue problem; we have a dependency problem. Incrementalism is a slow death. We need a radical shift that rewards workers over the state. Imagine: lower taxes, cheaper housing, and the highest growth in 50 years. It requires hard choices, but the average taxpayer deserves to finally feel wealthy again.

This is the Dunning-Kruger effect combined with a heavy persona bias. When someone is significantly more intelligent than you, their thought process can seem incoherent because you aren't recognizing the patterns they see. Average intelligence tends to rely on social and verbal cues to 'feel' if someone is smart, whereas higher intelligence focus on the quality of ideas. Musk is comfortably in the top 0.2% (IQ 145+). If you or AOC can’t recognise that is almost certainly your own limitations.

Similar thoughts as AOC here honestly. I have never seen any indication of Elon Musk's supposed genius. He seems like an absolute moron. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to believe that he's brilliant just because everyone tells me that he is.

Agree with the problem but it’s not the councils fault. Britain is built on a culture of respect. Councils are not capable of cleaning up that level of litering. The problem is the people in that local area having no respect for where they live. You don’t solve this by sending people to clean the streets. You send cops in who will aggressively fine people who litter. That’s the only way people like that learn.

Actually, it's your brand of politics that’s hopeless. You’re choosing to ignore the massive real-world impact that mass migration has on housing, wages, and services just so you can take the moral high ground. Calling it 'hope' doesn’t change the fact that our infrastructure is at a breaking point. Proposing a real solution to the biggest problem this country has faced after decades of being ignored isn't hate, it's the only actual message of hope we’ve had in years.

The irony of claiming Brexiteers don't understand 'simple concepts' while you try to reduce global macroeconomics to a single bullet point slogans is pretty incredible. You’re acting like market size is the only metric that matters, but scale doesn't mean much if you don't have growth. The reality is that if a $22T market was the magic shield you're suggesting, France and Germany wouldn't be struggling the way they are. Both are currently performing worse than the UK, and Germany has basically been stuck in a rut for two years. If the two biggest EU 'insiders' are doing worse than the 'outsider,' it completely kills the argument that Brexit is the cause of some unique systemic failure. It’s clearly a wider European issue, and the data shows the UK is actually navigating it better than the EU's own engine rooms right now.

For those who don't like facts, the EU is a $22 TRILLION market, 20 miles away from us. People forget this. Whether it grows -1%, 0% or 1% is largely irrelevant. The UK would be richer now if we'd Remained.

Trump won because the Democrats tried to install the walking definition of corruption “Hillary Clinton” as president, while cheating the democratic system in every way during the primaries. She was proof the system was rotten and Trump won because she was rejected by people who happily voted for Obama.

It was a backlash. Obama upended the entire cultural narrative for a huge part of the country, it scared them to their core. The first place we saw it was with the immediate Tea Party movement, that urge to “go back”. We saw the claims that essentially were “he's not from here even” and that gave rise to Trump who saw that and exploited it with the birth certificate nonsense. THEN the Democrats had the audacity to try to elect a black woman…. And here we are.

I’ll never understand how America went from Barack Obama to Donald Trump. From dignity, empathy, and competence to grievance, cruelty, and chaos. It wasn’t an accident. It was backlash. Backlash to having a smart, principled, wildly popular Black president who proved this country could be better. And some people couldn’t stand it.
