Q. Why would it be a bad thing for Iran to get a nuclear weapon? A. Because, assuming you support illegal wars of aggression, then the US & Israel could not attack Iran with impunity, as they are now doing. The region wld stablize if Iran became a nuclear power like Israel.

To my shame, Canada was a country that provided quick initial support for the illegal actions of the US in attacking iran, and then failed to say anything when genocidal nuclear war was on the cards. #cdnpoli

When Trump threatened to destroy a whole civilisation, impliedly by using nuclear weapons, the SILENCE of other Western leaders (with few exceptions such as the Pope & Sanchez) marks the most shameful imaginable lack of moral courage Keeping silent at time of maximum peril

Data centers cause extensive environmental harm and economic disaster in regard to utility rates, all to increase drastically unemployment for the benefit of the small minority of the super rich. And Carney thinks this is what Canada needs! #cdnpoli

This is a true summary of the situation. And, during this entire period of time, the government of Canada lent its support to the illegal actions of the United States in attacking Iran. To our eternal shame. #cdnpoli

Iranian Ambassador: I think that, once more, this war has shown that the United States will not bring security and stability to the region. In response to the representative of the United States, I only want to refer to some remarks by the U.S. president, who initiated this war of aggression against Iran. On March 21st, he threatened to hit and obliterate Iran’s power plants. On March 28th, he escalated this threat, saying he wanted to blow up and completely obliterate critical infrastructure, including power plants, oil facilities, Kharg Island, and desalination installations. On April 1st, he declared his intention to bring Iran “back to the Stone Age,” explicitly threatening to strike all electric generating facilities. On April 5th, he again openly threatened to target civilian infrastructure, stating that “Tuesday will be power plant day and bridge day. There will be nothing like it.” And two days later, he resorted to language that is not only deeply irresponsible but profoundly alarming, declaring that “the whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back.” Such rhetoric is unbefitting of any political leader, let alone the head of a permanent member of the Council entrusted with the maintenance of international peace and security.

Psychological distress has increased significantly following statements by the American president, Donald Trump, about Greenland. This is shown in a new study from the Center for Public Health in Greenland and Ilisimatusarfik (the University of Greenland). “We are seeing a marked decline in the population’s mental health and well-being compared to previous studies. Compared to last year alone, many more people are now experiencing poor mental well-being and lower quality of life,” said Professor Peter Bjerregaard from the Center for Public Health in Greenland in a press release. The number of citizens showing symptoms of psychological distress has more than quadrupled—from 7 percent in a population survey last year to 31 percent this year. Additionally, 76 percent of the population report experiencing a moderate or high level of concern in connection with the American president’s statements about Greenland. Major drop in quality of life The new study was conducted in January and February this year, with a total of 308 respondents completing the questionnaire. According to Peter Bjerregaard, the study provides a rare insight into how a geopolitical conflict is experienced at a very personal level: “It shows how quickly concerns and uncertainty can spread and affect many people’s daily lives.” Indeed, 82 percent of Greenlanders report that worries about what the United States might do are affecting their everyday lives. Furthermore, quality of life has dropped by 20 percentage points over the past year, with only 64 percent now stating that they have a high quality of life. Strength and solidarity However, the Naalakkersuisoq (Minister) for Health and Persons with Disabilities, Anna Wangenheim, also sees something positive in the new study. She writes on Facebook that it reflects the strength and unity of the population. The responses in the survey also show that more people are taking care of themselves—for example, by spending time in nature or talking with friends and family. “As we can also see, Greenland has strengths—such as using nature and talking with those closest to us. These are some of the strengths within our community,” Anna Wangenheim told KNR. —KNR

"[Carney] lent early and essential credibility to this war, even though the original war goal also violated international law." So the statements about obeying the laws of war and all of that were complete and utter bollocks from beginning to end. Hypocrisy on fire! #cdnpoli
Christo Aivalis 🌹🍊@christoaivalis

Carney needs to face a reality: Canada is still regarded as a moral leader in the world, especially after he gave what most through was an excellent speech at Davos He lent early and essential credibility to this war, even though the original war goal also violated international law. That decision was unacceptable then, and it's proven disastrous since.

It was not just Trump who revealed himself yesterday. The total silence from @Keir_Starmer and his apology for a cabinet in the face of Trump's genocidal threat to Iran, even as they took immediate concrete action to ban Kanye West/Ye, reveals deep and profoundly troubling double standards. As we saw repeatedly with Gaza, the mass slaughter of Muslims really doesn't bother to our government; now even the threat of complete civilisational erasure is not worth a passing comment. Starmer just shrugged and let the B-52s take off with all their bombs primed and ready to drop on civilian targets. A total and irredeemable disgrace.
Mark Seddon@MarkSeddon1962

You come to the reluctant and sad conclusion that even a threat to wipe out a civilisation by an unhinged US President is still not enough to elicit any serious push back from the Prime Minister or his Cabinet. What have we become? theguardian.com/world/2026/apr…
