@davidsirota I thought Obama appoints the DNC nominee... Isn't that what happened with Biden?

It’s not great that Dems feel they need to kiss the ring & make sure their political decisions are blessed by the former president whose decisions to turn hope & change into more of the same for his donors created the backlash conditions for Trump’s ascent to the White House.
Axios@axios

☎️ Gavin Newsom explains on The Axios Show that he reached out to Barack Obama for advice on California redistricting, nervous he’d disapprove based on “when they go low, we go high.” "He says, 'I just want to let you know I like what you're saying and I hope you do this.”

@ryangrim The South Park Rule: "ALL CELEBRITY VOICES ARE IMPERSONATED.....POORLY." A first amendment thing going on where you ought to be able to speak as someone. But with AI I think you could say that there needs to be some level of separation.

I kind of think that you, as a person, should own your voice, and that nobody should be able to reproduce it for any reason without your permission.

@jukka235 Pretty much everyone in Italy + Sweden has been infected multiple times with covid. The lockdowns in Italy lasted for 2 months. What is the mechanism you're proposing for a 2 month time differential in mass infection causing increasing vs decreasing healthy life?

Remember the lock-downs in Italy in 2020? Italy is the only major country in Europe where the number of healthy life years has increased since the pandemic began. 1/x

@TriciaDearborn Virtually everyone in all those countries has been infected with covid multiple times. I don't see how/why Sweden should be any different than anywhere else. Maybe you could argue a few months ahead but that's not really what the chart shows.

@PaulSkallas If Vatican City built an army and started acting like a rogue state - the Protestants would object. Sunnis/Shias/Kurds counter balance in the ME too. Israel has no counter balance from within the religion to regulate their behavior. And thus to your point - 10% support works.

Israel is Israel. I don't criticize it much. It's an ethnostate that is becoming more and more conservative religious and militant over the years. That's fine. That's the whole purpose of it. The question is how does America limit Israeli influence over American politics? It's a difficult question. Israel relies on groups like AIPAC. And AIPAC is funded by Jewish American donors. Jewish Americans are the richest group in America. They are very successful. So even if 90 percent of American Jews dislike Israel. The 10 percent that do will fund AIPAC and attempts to influence politicians to be friendly toward Israel. That 10 percent will be billionaires and powerful people. And jewish Americans have an affinity to Israel. Most Americans don't have an affinity to other nations. They just see themselves as American. It's a formula. It's why I think israeli influence will never truly end in America.
Damir Marusic@dmarusic

From Israel's perspective, lighting the region on fire makes a lot of sense. I don't hold it against them at all. What I'd like to hear is how this is a good idea from the U.S. perspective.

If we’re Making America Healthy Again, government shouldn't be promoting glyphosate and providing liability immunity for corporations making it. Thank you to @RepMikeLevin for cosponsoring the No Immunity for Glyphosate Act.

@mtracey Are you aware that there was only one other viable option that offered zero hope for anti-war as they were consolidating with neocons as part of their campaign? I don't blame Jimmy based on the information he had at the time.

@ggreenwald A coherent functioning government - by definition - would be better at challenging US interests when they oppose those of their own people. ...so yeah, that'll never be an option.

The drunken triumphalism from American war cheerleaders is identical to the first months of the Iraq War (We got Saddam! We won!); the first weeks of war in Libya (We got Gaddafi! We won!); the 2024 war with Iran (We decapitated them!), etc. As Trump AI czar David Sacks put it:

@ggreenwald We've entered the stage of democracy where people are voting for <10% odds. No one believes what the candidates campaign on - but at least the ones pretending to care give you a very small chance of getting something remotely like the agenda you're voting for.

Trump said long ago it doesn't matter what he does: his most loyal supporters will find just cheer everything he does. The problem is those who oppose a Cheney/Bolton foreign policy also can't vote Dem, as Biden in Gaza and Ukraine, and Schumer and Jeffries now, have shown.
Sohrab Ahmari@SohrabAhmari

Somehow, JD Vance, a fierce Trumpian critic of the neoconservatives, ended up in government at the highest levels---only to help implement the foreign-policy preferences of a John Bolton or Elliott Abrams. My UnHerd essay. unherd.com/2026/03/how-jd…

@tokyojose @mtracey You can calculate odds differently and make a different choice If you want peace but have to speculate on which full of shit candidate gives you the best odds of peace. Then that's a rigged system not a dumb electorate. ^that's my point.

@RodneyField7 @mtracey Absurd. The risk with Trump is it could always get much worse than anything Biden would do. This war proves it. That 10% hope you had was based on pure delusions.

The attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States are illegal, unprovoked and unjustifiable. Peace and diplomacy was possible. Instead, Israel and the United States chose war. This is the behaviour of rogue states — and they have jeopardised the safety of humankind around the world with this catastrophic act of aggression. Our government must condemn this flagrant breach of international law, and urgently pursue a foreign policy based on justice, sovereignty and peace.

@mtracey It's not Joe Rogan's fault that what candidates campaign on has nothing to do with their actual policy. If one person is doing war/genocide and the other person is saying no war/genocide but there is a 90% chance they're full of it...who do you support if you're anti-war?
