If you put junk in your body and don’t exercise and train it, you will become physically unwell. If you put junk in your mind and don’t exercise and train it, you will become mentally unwell. It’s not complicated. @SysoSystem #mentalhealth #Mindset #Health #selfcare

"More than 1,000 mental health experts & professionals call on the UK Government to immediately ban diagnosing children & young people with borderline personality disorder (BPD)" - a highly damaging & stigmatising diagnosis. But will the status quo listen? gloucestershirelive.co.uk/news/health/me…

Fragilizing young people as emotionally weak and vulnerable is great for the mental health industry, but it's not great for young people. Helping people with their mental health is not medical work. It's love and wisdom work. Starting with self love and self work.

We're shocked when people kill themselves quickly, but seem to turn a blind eye to people killing themselves slowly. Food and pharmaceutical companies don't have your best interests at heart. Educate yourself. Understand what you're putting in your body. And your mind.

Did You Know? Inflammation starts to build up in our muscles after only 10 to 15 minutes of sitting? This is why it is vital to move as much as possible. Long periods of sitting, even for people who are otherwise physically active, take a toll on your health—and not just your sore back! It can also increase inflammation in your body and decrease insulin sensitivity (key to metabolic health) and heart health. Simply moving the body in any way (standing, stretching, squats etc. every hour) can help prevent this from occurring.

Great article by someone who was once a poster girl for the mental illness model of distress, crying its value from the rooftops, only to discover over painful time that everything she'd been led to believe turned out to be oppressive, wrong & harmful. theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

“Psychiatric diagnoses are categorically different [from medical diagnoses] because they are merely descriptive, not explanatory. It's not that we don't know their causes *yet*. It's that DSM diagnoses cannot speak to causes, now or ever”. psychologytoday.com/us/blog/psycho…

@JDaviesPhD Also perhaps worth considering, do they… -Often not understand how hard their parents lives have been? -Have higher expectations of how their live ‘should’ be? -Buy too much into a ‘mental health’ narrative that has disempowered them?

"The majority of UK teenagers believe they will have harder lives than their parents... [with] 14- to 17-year-olds painting a bleak picture of their futures, with money & climate worries at the fore." We know that such demoralisation worsens mental health. theguardian.com/society/2024/m…

The more you're living from your ego, the more your life will feel empty and superficial. For depth and fulfilment you have to live from your soul, from your heart. Light up and lighten up. It's better for you, and better for everyone. lessego.co.uk

I'm a psychologist & I am first to tell you NOT EVERYONE NEEDS THERAPY! Friendships, community, church, family, addressing lifestyle & health are healing. Sometimes its just taking time. We should train therapists to know how to treat genuine clinical problems & those suffering

We’ve created a ‘pills or therapy’ culture around trauma when for lots of people, both will harm them, both already have harmed them, and they are told that if the pills and the therapy isn’t helping, it’s because they are not ‘putting the work in’. Or they need to have more therapy or more pills. Fact is, for lots of people, neither of these approaches will work because there is no magic bullet for processing your trauma. Some people will need a hobby, to write, to read, to talk, to sing, to scream, to exercise, to cut certain people out, to leave their family, to make new friends, to connect with nature, to meditate, to make pieces of expressive art, to write music, to run a marathon, to reinvent themselves, to dance, to do a qualification, to climb a mountain, to get a pet dog, get some justice for what happened, volunteer their time to a cause, write a book, move house, to pray, to learn, to cook, to meet others who have been through it too… People are slowly waking up to these realisations, these options and alternatives. Their trauma is frightening and valid, but the answer doesn’t have to be decades of polypharmacy and therapy with professionals who make you feel worse. And before anyone starts with the whataboutery (as usual) I know the pills and the therapy helps some people, but this post is about the fact that we’ve created this rigid set of two options and everything else has been relegated to hippy woo woo bullshit when it is life changing for many people. There is a $435bn industry sitting behind ‘mental health’ therapy, apps and medications - but teaching humans to understand and process their trauma in natural and positive ways that work for them as an individual makes $0 profit. For me, being anti-pathology includes critical views of therapy, power dynamics, oppressive practice and harmful therapists, psychologists and counsellors - it’s not just about psychiatry doling out pills. Humankind is being told that the ongoing trauma and distress in our populations is actually a set of mental illnesses instead of validating the mess we all live in. The abuse, the violence, the fear, the death, the loss, the anger, the inequality. “Go to therapy. Take your pills. It’s you - its not the world. It’s not your abuser. It’s not your government. It’s just you. You need help.” Think.
