"Why do people wear their Sunday best to church?" A question that changed my life... It was 2021... @mitchdmoore and I lived together in a small 2BR apartment in Indianapolis, IN. Early to Faith I was still trying to figure it all out... How to pray, what these stories in the Bible even meant, or how the freaking pastor kept trying to apply these verses from thousands of years ago to my life today. I didn't know what I was doing but I kept showing up because I knew 1 truth: • God is real One Sunday afternoon Mitch looked at me and asked me the question that changed everything... He asked - "Why do people wear their Sunday best to Church?" I laughingly replied - "they want to look good for God... why do you ask?" Mitch then answered - "Yeah I get it but God sees you the 6 other days of the week" That line struck me... I repeated it in my head "God sees you the 6 other days of the week" See, in that moment as an 18 year old kid who grew up having never prayed, only been to church a handful of times, and didn't know what it even meant to be a "Christian." Those words left me thinking... Before, I thought God was only with me when I: • Prayed • Went to Church • Was reading the Bible • or when I was acting a certain way Again those words ran through my brain "God sees you the 6 other days of the week" I carried this thought with me into the job I had at the time... a call center customer service job for a logistics company Essentially I was the complaint line for pissed off truck drivers... for 12 hours a day 5 days a week I answered the phone to the immediate words of "F*ck you" (remember the strikes those truck drivers went on in 2021? Yeah... your boy was answering those phone calls FOR MONTHS) As you can imagine in this call center there weren't many people who enjoyed their job or for that matter their life. I carried this thought with me though "God is with me the 6 other days fo the week" and I have always been a people person.. able to connect with anyone anywhere. I started praying this prayer on my 3 block walk into work of the downtown streets of Indianapolis "God if you are with me please just allow me to be a beacon of your light inside of this dark office" After Id finish that prayer I would turn on the song "Run This Town" by Kanye, Jay-Z, and Rihanna (this song left me feeling some type of way as I had aspirations of quitting this job to build my own business but that's a story for a different time) After just a month of praying this prayer I started walking into this office like Lebron walking into the Staples Center "Mike you are looking good today brother" "John I am LOVING that fresh fade bro" "James I can tell you've been hitting the gym.. what are you benching these days 225?" Im telling y'all I started HYPING everyone up... I was spreading love and connecting to people like never before. That beacon of God's light I had been praying about was working. People in that office were inspired by me to start to hitting the gym, starting their own businesses, pursuing careers they actually found passion in, betting on themselves. This is where my relationship with God began... in cubicle square... a call center where I answered the phone to more "Fuck you's" than I did "hello's" A dark office where I started using this gift God had given me... a gift to connect and speak LIFE into others I share this to tell you that right now God is with YOU the 6 other days of the week... It doesn't matter if you: • Pray • Go to church • Are reading the Bible • Or are acting a certain way All you have to do is focus on the 2 truths that 18 year old Matt now knew: • God is real • God is with me Even if you're in your own "dark office" like I was, I want to remind you, that you have a light you carry inside of you... A special Gift God has given you that will bring more purpose and fulfillment to your life than you can imagine... Well at least it has mine Recently I was asked the cheesy question "If you could give your 18 year old self 1 piece of advice what would it be" I responded... "Keep going." and today if you are still reading this that is my advice to you on this journey in life and in Faith Simply Keep Going. I’m grateful it’s Sunday and I get to go to church.

"What advice do you wish you heard at 22?" Saw this on a post recently. Here's my honest answer that will anger some, confuse many, but could liberate ALL.

Listening to sermons and going to Bible studies are super great and really important tools to building our faith. But always remember that their whole purpose is to guide us to the bigger picture of building our personal relationship with God.
