@GrZmNkY09 @todd_thacker @Keith83361 @TomorrowsWar You may be unaware but an altar is a type of table with a specific purpose The Lamb of God being on an altar is contrary to the teachings of Jesus despite being explicitly shown in God-breathed scripture? Also despite being explicitly foreshadowed by sacrifices in the temple?

The table at the last supper was not at altar, it was a table where friends were having dinner. The Passover meal was never eaten in an altar, it was always a table. The book of revelation should not be used to create teachings that are contrary to the teachings of Jesus. We should be mirroring Jesus only

Can you show me any writing from a mainstream Christian leader before 400 AD that looks like modern Protestantism? If the earliest Christians would instantly recognize you but find Catholicism alien, it should be easy to quote them describing a faith that matches yours.
J Heckathorne, the Bible is enough@HeckathorneJay

@TomorrowsWar Hardly. The irony is Catholicism would be unrecognizable if it were biblical; yet the earliest Christian’s would have no problem recognizing you.

Yes Jesus used an altar: the table of the Last Supper And He uses an altar much more explicitly in Heaven in Revelation And of course the whole of the Old Testament’s use of altars foreshadows our use of altars now We should be mirroring the rightful worship in Heaven, that’s one of the main reasons the Protestant pastor and biblical scholar Scott Hahn came to the Catholic Faith. He went to a Mass and found it to mirror Revelation’s scenes of worship He even made a book about it after if that interests you: The Lamb's Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth

The altar is to hold the sacrifice(Jesus, the Lamb of God) that is made present But the act of sacrifice was already done Notice how in Revelation in Heaven, Jesus appears on top of an altar despite the act of sacrifice already having been done in the past. If you do that, you are missing the key element of an ordained minister of the line of succession from the Apostles. However, if you did have one and he did the words of consecration, it would be valid.

When I have a dinner with other believers at home and at the end, we break bread and have the wine. Are we not practicing it the way Jesus intended? You read that but instead think its more logical to put Him in an altar and sacrifice Him again on Sundays in front of a ton of people and call it biblical?

The Last Supper was special for many reasons and so while it provides the norm for the words and actions of consecration (and Paul affirms them) it doesn’t give any other specifics of what should be done/said in parts surrounding the moment of consecration Paul doesn’t go into that detail either But the Didache does. And it predates some of the NT scripture, it’s from the first century.

@ScoutingAlong @todd_thacker @Keith83361 @TomorrowsWar Why do you read how it was done by Jesus, at dinner with his friends, in a house. You read Paul speaking about it as well But you choose to go with writings outside the Bible? Why cant the Bible ever be enough for salvation?

Can you see how none of this is in the Bible? We're called to do this whenever we drink from the cup. No priest necessary. No transubstantiation. We're proclaiming the Lord's death, not reliving it. (1 Cor. 11:26.) Just so much the RCC has added onto the Eucharist because, as humans, we love rituals and it has from the beginning been difficult for us to deal with an invisible God.

@ScoutingAlong @todd_thacker @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar So, this is false, no matter how many times you say it. "The Eucharist itself is also His flesh and blood, making it that much more powerful of a memorial and remembrance" It's heresy, it's soils the sacrifice of Christ. It's evil.

@ScoutingAlong @todd_thacker @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar Jesus puts the final teaching in 1 Corinthians 11 which by any rational person reading the text clearly articulates a view that it is a very important memorial and remembrance. That it is bread and wine. Very clear. Progressive revelation... makes 1 Cor most important teaching

I disagree that any attraction is immutable. I have several friends who can attest to this fact, having had homosexual attractions but found themselves later no longer holding them. As well as other friends who had no attractions at all but later gained attractions. I also don’t hate homosexuals, I love and want the best for them. I also do NOT agree with that other individual about hating/discriminating against people for truly immutable characteristics such as race or sex.

@todd_thacker @Keith83361 @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar John 6 doesn’t talk about transubstantiation yet, it talks about consuming His flesh but doesn’t go into the specifics of how Jesus reveals those specifics at the Last Supper It is very central and all of the earliest members of the Church agree

I'm not bashing the Eucharist/Communion/the Last Supper, Jesus told us to do it in memory of Him! That said, it needs to be put in its proper place. Very little of the gospels are about the Last Supper . . . it's not the center of our faith. And my first sentence was noting that the Catholic view of the Last Supper is not a hard teaching, so the people who left Jesus couldn't have thought transubstantiation is what He meant either.
