We have BIG news to celebrate! Newton County Schools is proud to announce our 2026 STAR Students — and this year, we have a tie for the highest SAT score in the district! Congratulations to: ⭐ Aoqi Xu – Alcovy High School & Newton College & Career Academy ⭐ Jack Allred – Newton High School & NCCA STEM Institute ⭐ Tallis Howard – Eastside High School Aoqi and Jack each earned a 1520 on the SAT, making them our 2026 Co-District STAR Students. All three students were recognized at the February 19 Kiwanis Club of Covington meeting, continuing the club’s nearly 60-year tradition of celebrating academic excellence in our community. As we celebrate a century of Black history—past and present—Newton County Schools is proud to highlight the trailblazers who made history right here at home. Our first Black History Month spotlight honors Mr. Garland Hillman, the first African American elected to serve on the Newton County Board of Education. Mr. Hillman represented District 4 from 1976 to 1991, helping pave the way for future leaders and ensuring that more voices were represented at the table. His service reflects the power of leadership, representation, and progress—core themes of Black History Month. We are grateful for the path he helped forge and proud to celebrate his lasting impact on Newton County Schools. They’ve done it again! 🏆➕ For the second straight year, Newton County Schools has captured BOTH the first and second place spots in the Division I Regional Middle School Math Team Competition! The Newton County STEAM Academy team earned 1st place, and Cousins Middle School secured 2nd place — continuing a tradition of excellence in mathematics across our district. Competing against top teams from surrounding counties, our students demonstrated outstanding problem-solving skills, teamwork, and academic rigor in both written and ciphering competitions. This back-to-back regional sweep speaks volumes about the strength of math instruction in Newton County Schools and the dedication of our students and coaches.
