In my mind, this was always going to be more of a marathon than a sprint. Things are so fucked up over there that I never expected this to be resolved and back to normal in a week. The haters are as loud as ever and the company is clearly still in survival mode. I know it feels hopeless and if you’re leaving now I don’t blame you. We have fought so hard and we are tired. If this is the end of your battle please take comfort in the fact that you were on the right side of history: the side that helped unite a divided community, raised money for good causes and showed his team and everyone behind the game that their work is loved all around the world and that the threats, abuse, and bullying they endured should never have been rewarded or tolerated. The July 8 statement uses self-inspection and self-rectification language. That is compliance vocabulary. In my view, that announcement was never really written for us, or for CN players. It was written for the people above them. It reads like a company under scrutiny proving it is behaving. That would explain the whole pattern: trimming sensitive content in game, total silence about Valko, pulling out of public events. Now, the question I kept asking myself: if he's cancelled forever, why is his marketing only HALF gone? Look at the pattern. What they removed is everything the angry CN audience and regulators can see: the in game "coming soon," the Weibo and XHS material, the promo content inside China. What they left untouched is everything China does NOT see: YouTube is blocked there, and Spotify and Apple Music don't operate in the CN market. His videos are still archived and playable. His songs are still streaming. There's a practical layer too. Taking music off streaming platforms means takedown processes, distributor contracts, royalty paperwork. Scrubbing YouTube creates headlines like "Papergames erases Valko," which is another news cycle they clearly don't want. Archiving instead of deleting is the minimum noise move. But here is the part that matters to me: a company that truly decided something is dead forever usually doesn't pay to keep it breathing on every global platform. Dismantling only the side that's on fire, while leaving the rest intact, is what you do when you want to keep a door open. Maybe not for China. Maybe not soon. Maybe never, I can't promise you that. But it is not nothing. The hard part we have to face together: even if Valko comes back someday, it will probably be much later. And it will be to a game reshaped by all of this. LADS is going to feel different for a while, maybe for a long while. That is a real loss, and you're allowed to grieve it. What we do now: no hate. Not at Papergames, not at CN players, who are not a monolith and many of whom are grieving too. Everyone saw what pressure and harassment achieved these past weeks. If we become the next wave of it, we close the door on Valko ourselves. Nine days of statements and they have never once said the word "over." Patience will be our best ally and what we will hate the most.

Maybe I'm looking at this too much like a former software developer, but here's my "happy path": *Stabilize the game. *Resolve whatever is happening behind the scenes. *Publish a real statement. *Acknowledge the damage done to player trust. *Share a roadmap. *And then... bring Valko home. 🐺 Trust isn't rebuilt by pretending nothing happened.
