@LichTamara People are focusing on how 4 @CPC_HQ MPs joining federal Liberal caucus affects @PierrePoilievre. I think the real issue is how the Conservative Party harboured low quality MPs like Marilyn Gladu, Michael Ma, Matt Jeneroux & Chris d'Entremont - who could be "bought" so easily.

The term "MAID" was created to depersonalise and medicalise death. It's so consistently used in everyday parlance that many don't consider that it's an acronym referring to "dying". Call it what it actually is: - Euthanasia - Doctor-facilitated homicide - State-funded death

Me: Most likely it's not a genocide if the population grows over the time period in question. Them: It's not about the numbers! It's about intent! Me: So Hamas committed an act of genocide on October 7, 2023? Them: No! Only 1,200 people died!

The Finnish study is orders of magnitude more complete and rigorous than the entire literature cited in justification on behalf of the false claim that pediatric gender medicine is evidence based combined. All the criticism of an enormous study tracking every single person receiving gender medicalization in a country, in some cases for decades, by people willing to cite a collection of the shoddiest pseudo-studies ever assembled on any subject, is tragifarcical cope by people whose bad faith has long ago been established beyond question.

UPDATE ON IMPORTANT NEW FINLAND STUDY | Professor Kaltiala has responded to criticism of the Finnish study, which found that mental health may get worse after young people undergo medical gender transition. One critique of the study argues that psychiatric appointments are part and parcel of the gender-transition process in Finland and therefore may not point to serious psychiatric morbidity. In their paper, Professor Kaltiala and her colleagues acknowledged the limitation that their study could not analyse in detail why these patients needed psychiatric services. Asked about this issue, she told me that the healthcare register data used for the study included diagnoses and in-patient periods but not treatment nor information about a patient’s problems related to family life, romantic relationships or work. However, Professor Kaltiala said the young people seen by specialised psychiatric services in her country would have “severe disorders”. These services were focused on “those really in need”, consistent with national criteria for health equity. “In Finland, you do not get admitted to specialist-level services if you don’t have mental disorders at all or [have only] mild disorders and problems,” she said. “Primary-level services are available for needs related to milder disorders and psychosocial difficulties.” She said the gender-referred youth in the new study were much more likely than matched controls to have a history of severe mental disorders, often dating back some years before they reached the gender clinic. “Thus, many developed feelings of gender dysphoria in the context of severe disorders,” she said. “Severe mental disorders during adolescence generally have potential to complicate identity development. It rather seems that feelings of gender dysphoria are sometimes secondary to severe mental disorders.” If it were the other way around, and the mental disorders were secondary to the dysphoria, those disorders would be “expected to subside with medical gender reassignment”, according to the Dutch treatment protocol adopted internationally, she said. But this did not happen in the new Finnish study. Instead, the need for specialist psychiatric services—and therefore the scale of serious mental disorders—increased after medical transition, as the study by Professor Kaltiala and her colleagues reported. In my experience, conservatives treat gays much better than liberals. Liberals treat gays like a caricature of what they think a gay person is, and conservatives treat each gay person like an individual person.

I too grew up in Lebanon. When I was only five years old, Palestinian gunmen, in coordination with local militias, helped ethnically cleanse Christians from southern Mount Lebanon. In September 1983, they and their allies displaced tens of thousands of Christians from the Shouf and Aley regions, slaughtering at least 1,500 people in the process. This was not an isolated episode. In January 1976, Palestinian factions carried out what was then the largest act of ethnic cleansing of the Lebanese Civil War in the coastal city of Damour. At least 300 civilians—women, children, and the elderly—were murdered, and thousands more were driven from their homes. These were Lebanese civilians, killed in their own country by foreign armed groups. @TaghridAlMawed should be ashamed—unequivocally—for two reasons. First, she is falsifying history by portraying Palestinians as nothing more than victims in Lebanon. That is a distortion. Palestinian militias were not passive actors; they were perpetrators. They helped trigger the civil war in 1975, killed thousands of Lebanese Christians, contributed to the fragmentation of the country, and later turned their guns on one another (Abu Musa vs. Arafat) as well as on Lebanese factions such as Shia Amal during the War of the Camps (1985–1988). The scale of violence and devastation they inflicted on Lebanon—a country that had taken them in—cannot simply be erased or rewritten. Second, and even more reprehensible, is her willingness to exploit the deaths of two recently killed individuals in Lebanon for political point-scoring. These deaths occurred in a context entirely unrelated to a civil war that ended 36 years ago. Yes, Pierre Moawad was a Lebanese Forces activist. But unlike Palestinian gangs in the camps, or Hezbollah, the Lebanese Forces have long disarmed and operate today as a political party. To circulate images of the newly dead in order to resurrect old conflicts and weaponize their deaths is not just irresponsible—it is morally indefensible. Then again I am not surprised because I expect no better from extremist Palestinian activists. @TaghridAlMawed: shame on you.
