@charlieo_conn This is a 90-95 point team if they get average or above goaltending, but they're still rebuilding. So they'll have games like this, where they're competitive but not good enough. When you hit both posts and it doesn't bounce in off the goalie, maybe it's not your night?

Yeah, I honestly don't think the Flyers played awful or anything, they just didn't have the extra gear they needed and didn't get any of the bounces or breaks. Also, Vladar struggled for the first time this season. That was gonna happen eventually.

@charlieo_conn you can just chalk it up to “one of those days” Hopefully 14 is back tomorrow and Kolosov has a good game

@charlieo_conn Only problem is they play in Hartford, so he'll get back late (unless he flies directly to Philly, still will be early morning). So might not play until Tuesday. Speaking of LHV, Robertson, after two meh AHL seasons, has 6 ES points in 5 games and +4. Still only 22.

If Emil Andrae is going to be called back up, he has to play in an AHL game first per new CBA rules. He was a scratch last night for the Phantoms, but they play again tonight. As long as he's in the lineup for Lehigh Valley tonight, he could be called back up as soon as tomorrow.

@charlieo_conn Andrae should be back Sunday it seems, given Couts is probable for then. Reason not to waive Ginning is rash of injuries has Briere wary of losing any D-men this early in the season. Risto, Bonk, Samson out, Gilbert/Grans didn't show enough. McDonald/Murchison not ready.

Tocchet confirms that Emil Andrae was sent down entirely for roster reasons, due to the uncertainty surrounding Couturier's status (he's a game-time decision, per Tocchet). Said Andrae could be back in a day or two.

@charlieo_conn Zamula would be claimed given his body of work, I doubt Ginning would be. Isn't there a new rule that Andrae will have to play one game for LHV before he can be recalled? That makes these waiver moves more complex than mere paper transactions.

At some point, they'll have to bite the bullet & put Ginning or even Zamula on waivers if Andrae keeps impressing in his NHL performances. But for now, Andrae going down is the easiest when there's roster uncertainty b/c it's an immediate thing rather than a 2-day process.

@charlieo_conn A top team has to be balanced, Michkov and Zegras give you two elite "half court" forwards (and Martone), they also need fast forwards who can make defenses back up, Tippett, Jett, ??? Drysdale, Sanheim give you that on the back end, I see Danny adding one more.

York on having Zegras & Michkov's talent on the club: "I think we’ve been needing that for a while now. It forces teams to play us a little bit differently. Usually, we were maybe meat & potatoes, and now we have a lot more skill. It’s been good."

@charlieo_conn Flyers got outplayed and won, though refs were allowing Preds to get away with murder. Balances games where they controlled play and lost. Over a season, this tends evens out, why metrics are good predictors for large samples. Losing Couts jumbled lines, but no more DeLo!

Flyers defeat Nashville by a 4-1 final. Trevor Zegras had two goals (and an assist), Matvei Michkov with a two assist game (both primaries), and Dan Vladar did well to hold down the fort in goal.

@charlieo_conn Good chance to check if Kolosov's good start is a SSS fluke or if he's taken a step up. They'd like to make the POs, but Briere has been honest that they're still rebuilding, just hopefully have exited the "fire sale" phase.

Yeah, Kolosov is almost certainly going to get one of the games this weekend. Sunday would make the most sense because then you can have Vladar extra rested for Montreal on Tuesday.
AP🐝@provolone22

@charlieo_conn Have to assume Vladar gets the next 2 and Kolosov gets the Flames on Sunday.

@charlieo_conn Given DeLo seems to be playing ahead of Grebenkin, might be a short-term move. But also suggests Tocchet isn't happy with Grebenkin's play - you could always expose Ginning who is unlikely to be claimed.

Regarding Ersson/Kolosov: I don't believe an emergency recall would allow the Flyers to just call Kolosov up with no corresponding move, because it would give the Flyers 24 active players on their roster. Guessing either Ersson goes on IR or Grebenkin is temporarily sent down.

@charlieo_conn Juulsen is the best fit of a bad group, no one else has shown they can play RHD. Too bad Grans played himself out of consideration. This should teach people not to underestimate Risto's value: "You don't know what you've got till it's gone"

The defense has done a great job given the circumstances! Wrote about it last week: allphly.com/flyers-defense… That said, it's been driven by the top-4. Small sample caveat, but you want sheltered 3rd pair guys doing better than: Juulsen: 42.1% xG Zamula: 42.0% Ginning: 40.6%
Mike Cilly@Mcil9518

@charlieo_conn I kind of don’t hate the rotation for this defensive group tbh. They have been leagues better than I think anyone could have hoped for so far

@charlieo_conn @madelinecampbll @DavidCastilloAC Combine: 5'10 172, probably 180-185 by now. Drysdale size. Wonder if they saw something in his skating they think they can fix. He's legitimate in that Wheeler had him #3 in the Dallas system (however, Dallas ranked 31st). So there's potential upside, but probably AHL move.

@charlieo_conn Flyer fans have to have realistic expectations, he's not a great skater, he's not very physical, and doesn't have great defensive instincts. On offense, he needs to play with linemates who can carry the puck, best in the O-zone, setting up plays. Great vision and wrist shot.

There is absolutely an element of moving the goalposts here from some people when it comes to Zegras. "Stop being only a skill guy, add more of an edge!" (Zegras adds more of an edge) "No, not like that!!!" Maybe a lot of those people just don't like Zegras, period.

Flyers getting the country of Latvia boost? It's like Shohei with LA and Japan, right? Right?
...Mom who also runs@jmatthewsreed

@charlieo_conn Fantastic to see Drysdale playing well w/confidence! Deserved his star. Our Latvian friends are now Flyers fans—so Abols is breaking through checks AND growing the fan base. FWIW, Tocchett appeared to chose Lankinen over last season. Silovs had something to prove.

@JHallNBCS Neither Ginning nor Andrae viable at RHD. Andrae - Zamula was also a "fail." So Juulsen at RHD until Risto returns. If Andrae stays up, Ginning should go down. He's AHL+ with little upside.

Egor Zamula is with Noah Juulsen in practice, Emil Andrae with Adam Ginning. So looks like Andrae and Ginning are fourth and extra pair.

@charlieo_conn Briere and Tocchet have to balance PO shot this season with the future, Dvorak on 1 year deal. Next season, Grebenkin, Martone and Jett all push for top 9 role. Not to ignore Bump, Barkey and maybe Gendron. So Grebenkin may be gradually phased in this season.

@charlieo_conn Fans have been bitching about Flyer development for years. But look at Risto and Seeler. Drysdale was a mess when he arrived from Anaheim. Zegras already looks much better. Cates, 5th rd AHL+ to 2C. Brink, undersized 2nd rd pick to 2RW. Think the problem has been players.

@adamscochran You obviously don't know what socialism is either. Americans have never supported socialism. What they've supported are redistribution programs, but generally with a certain Puritan tinge, "the deserving poor." And populist resentment of all elites, including the rich.

My theory, is that a large swath of MAGA voters are DEEPLY pro-Socialism. They just don’t actually know what “socialism” means because their only news source is Fox News. Whenever they listen to someone like Bernie or Mamdani, they love it - they just don’t seem to identify it as ‘democratic socialism’ They see it as what it is: A pursuit of equity, in a broken system.
Julian Roberts-Grmela@GrmelaJulian

A 55-year-old man wearing “MAGA for Mamdani” gear said he voted for Trump twice but now he’s “making a switch” and voting for Mamdani. “This’ll be the first time I'm voting for a Democrat,” he said. “I like his policies.”

@charlieo_conn Strange game. Ersson gives up a "softee" then a rock the rest of the game, Crosby goal was as lucky as it gets. Foerster wins game, no he doesn't. Brink wins game on a wicked shootout move. Flyers dominated for 40 minutes, then couldn't respond to Pen's end of game push.
