Meet Alicia V! Alicia began her career with Suncor 13 years ago and has worked across our assets and operations. She now leads a safety and environment team at Fort Hills turning risk, legislation and data into practical actions that ensure safe operations. Her dedication and innovative approach to health and safety, especially finding ways to make it engaging and fun, recently earned her the Alberta Mine Safety Association (AMSA) Trail Blazer Safety Leader award. While the recognition was individual, Alicia credits her success to the strength and collaboration of her team. “We often work in serious settings, so taking time to laugh together is important. It also helps with engagement – when people have fun learning, they’re more likely to apply the lessons learned.” We’re proud to have passionate professionals like Alicia who are committed to Suncor’s safety and success.

The sky’s the limit!  Travellers flying out of Montreal will soon be soaring with jet fuel produced at our Montreal Refinery, which began production this Fall. Every year, Canada imports about 11 million barrels of jet fuel to meet demand (Statistics Canada). By adding jet fuel to our production mix in Montreal, we’re strengthening Canada’s domestic supply. Indigenous Veterans Day honours the courage and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples who have served, past and present. Today, we’re proud to spotlight Greg Buffalo, Suncor Heavy Equipment Operator and Indigenous veteran from Montana First Nation in Maskwacis, Alta. Before joining Suncor, Greg spent nine years as an Aviation Systems Technician with the Canadian Air Force, maintaining and repairing aircraft, supporting missions and serving during pivotal moments like the aftermath of 9/11. His military experience instilled in him the values of discipline, safety and teamwork – qualities he now brings to his role as an operator. What began as an early interest in military aviation has grown into a lifelong passion. Nearly 20 years later, Greg continues to find inspiration in both the equipment he operates and the team he works with. Thank you to Greg – and to all Indigenous veterans – for your service, sacrifice and the example you set for our communities. // La Journée des vétérans autochtones rend hommage au courage et aux contributions des Premières Nations, des Inuits et des Métis qui ont servi et qui continuent de servir. Aujourd'hui, nous sommes fiers de mettre en lumière Greg Buffalo, opérateur d'équipement lourd à Suncor et vétéran autochtone de la Première Nation de Montana à Maskwacis, en Alberta.
