Conversion therapy is a huge risk, because using a position of trust as a therapist to change an unchangeable part of someone puts kids at high risk of suicide attempts.

Ultimately, conversion “therapy” hurts LGBTQ youth. Someone doesn’t choose to be a gay or trans – it is not a lifestyle or choice, and as such, no amount of talk or persuasion can make an LGBTQ person not LGBTQ.

This fall, SCOTUS will hear oral arguments in Chiles v. Salazar - a case that will determine if a law that prohibits state-licensed mental health professionals from using dangerous conversion practices on minors violates the free speech clause of the first amendment.

Rep. Ted Lieu, Sen. Patty Murray, and Sen. Cory Booker have introduced the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, legislation that bans so-called 'conversion therapy.' There are 62 co-sponsors in the House and 32 in the Senate.
