For any lawyers or law students in the #Waco area, tomorrow the Tenth Court of Appeals will hold a "Coffee with the Court." Stop by for coffee, pastries, and a chance to hobnob with the justices.
Thanks to @TexAppOrg for all the help planning!

Thanks to the fine folks at CSBA (@Dan_CourtSurety) for the raffle at Civil Appellate this year. Even before this, they were my first call on appellate bond issues.

@we4v3r It started working after your RT. I choose to believe that fixed it.

I got my copy in the mail today from Bill himself! Looking forward to diving in.

What happens when you mix the wisdom of a historian with the mind of a lawyer & the storytelling prowess of an author? You get "Dr. Bill Chriss," whose new book peels back the layers of Texas’ identity, helping the world understand what makes #Texans tick. bit.ly/3Qpdq8T

On June 19, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their emancipation – more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Watching #GoldCup with kids. "Why does the Guadeloupe team have a France flag?" In hindsight, the 30-minute answer probably didn't need to hit the Treaty of Tordesillas or the difficulty of navigating the Drake Passage.

Loving the breezy phrasing and use of contractions in a #SCOTX dissent today.

@DougtheLawyer Jesus also drove a Honda, but didn't talk about it. "For I do not speak of my own Accord." John 12:49. 😆🚗

I don't have billboards on I-35. Sometimes I drive down I-35 in my decade-old Accord.
I don't work on contingency or bill 3–4 figures an hour. I work on a salary that would make you question my sanity.
I don't go to parties with judges. I eat frozen pizza with my kids.
My kids don't go to private school. I drive them to public school in my Accord.
I don't post on LinkedIn about turning away inconvenient cases for the sake of my business. I represent everyone I'm appointed to.
My clients aren't sympathetic. My clients are accused of doing terrible things.
My clients aren't powerful. They have neither money nor power.
The lawyers who do those things call me names. Legislators wish I didn't exist. Prosecutors sneer at my clients and scoff at my arguments. Judges ignore what I say and treat my clients as less than people.
I do what I do because all people are made in God's image; they have dignity and rights, and they are entitled to be treated with respect, compassion, and integrity. I will fight for that in spite of name calling by the wealthy and contempt from the powerful.
And if you're going to call me a "true believer," remember this: at least I believe in something that matters.

I think all appellate lawyers will at least privately say that in any multi-member court that sits in Panels, the Great Wheel Judge Oldham mentions is.... of some importance.

@kirkito915 It takes so much longer to respond to a bad brief.

Finally got around to getting some firm-branded printing done. About the only people I hand business cards out to any more are court reporters at hearings. #texappcounsel
