Statement from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler: “During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise."

@GrandCanyonNPS Karpinski’s June 15, 1925 published date is in error. Stephen Mather, director of national parks, Grand Canyon park superintendent J. R. Eakin, along with a large congressional delegation, crossed over the Canyon using the South Kaibab trail, arriving June 25, 2025, opening it.

Happy 100th Anniversary! On this day, June 15, 1925, the Kaibab Trail was dedicated. Here's the history of the trail: go.nps.gov/gc-sk25 "The $73,000 "Yaki Trail," (Like Yaki Point) as it was called for a brief time after its completion in June 1925, was built where no trail had gone before. The route was chosen for both practical and aesthetic reasons. Except for the unavoidable, precipitous one-third mile segment below Yaki Point, engineers chose alignments to afford protection from landslides, exposure to year-round sunshine and summer breezes, and unobstructed canyon views." - Michael F. Anderson, Polishing the Jewel. Thinking about hiking #GrandCanyon this summer? It's really HOT down inside the canyon. Read our SUMMER HIKING TIPS and Cautions first. go.nps.gov/GC-HOT (14635) #GrandCanyon #KaibabTrail #HappyAnniversary #Arizona

@GrandCanyonNPS That date is in error. The correct date is June 25, 1925, when the congressional delegation arrived rim-to-rim to officially open the trail.

Years ago while running in a deep remote section of the Grand Canyon, I came across some ruins of buildings. I had no clue about their history. I put together this short video about the history of luxury resort camp built 112 years ago. #grandcanyon youtu.be/Wxs87lpNbnI

The 1987 Barkley included 6 marines, with backpacks, canteens, and heavy boots. Their leader told them if they didn’t finish, they would get extra duty. They saw a wolf take down a deer, but didn't finish a loop. ultrarunninghistory.com/classic #BM100

The first Barkley was held in 1986, with three loops, for about 55 miles, 25,000 feet of climbing, with a 24-hour cutoff. Thirteen unlucky runners started. They paid the entry fee of 35 cents. ultrarunninghistory.com/classic/ #BM100
