I've always maintained that most guys don’t need more clothes, they just need a better system. So I put together a simple framework to evaluate, edit, and curate your wardrobe, making the process of getting dressed enjoyable. Grab the free guide here👉secure.wellbuiltstyle.com/well-built-war…

If you are in this boat, however, there is still time to build connection. Reach out more.

I feel sorry for parents who don't have this kind of relationship with their grown kids. My goal is to not land in the same boat.

How do you know if you've raised your kids well? If they regularly call and text you in their 20s and 30s and beyond. And every so often you'll even get the, "Can I spend a day with you?" type message. In other words - kids that are still connected.

A lot of families don’t do dinners with their kid’s friends and parents because it’s “too much work” Something I learned from reading @oliverburkeman is the concept of “rugged hospitality.” You don’t need to cook a gourmet meal. Neither do you need to make your house spotless in order to entertain guests. Just be as you are…and invite them over to join. Even if it’s a simple homemade pizza or macaroni and cheese…in a house that still needs to be tidied.

Some families are the going out to eat at a restaurant type of family. And some families are let’s stay in and invite a bunch of the kid’s friends and their parents over for dinner type of family. We are the latter type in my house.

Plain tees and tanks in the gym. Keep your aesthetic simple and clean. You're there to take care of business.

This same analogy can even be extended to your family life with kids. Everybody wants “quality time” with their kids. But you can only get quality through quantity. That means lots of time spent together. All the mundane stuff. All the thankless things you do day to day as a parent with and for your kids - you need all that if you want capture some of those quality moments.

Life advice nobody told you: Violent consistency is the only path to achieve what you want. It's not going to be pretty. It's not going to draw oohs and aahs from the crowd. Because it looks messy in the days. It's getting out of bed when you don't want to. It's sitting down at your desk when you're tired. It's pounding your head into a wall one more time. It's ugly. It's unimpressive. But it works. Quantity is a necessary precursor to quality. You cannot create once and hope for it to be perfect. You have to create a lot. Every single day. I recently came across a story in Art & Fear that I love: A ceramics teacher split a class into two groups. One would be graded on the quantity of their output, the other would be graded on the quality of their output. On the final day, the first group would have their total output of pots weighed, while the second group would have one pot judged. When grading day arrived, something fascinating happened: "The works of highest quality were all produced by the group being graded for quantity. It seems that while the 'quantity' group was busily churning out piles of work—and learning from their mistakes—the 'quality' group had sat theorizing about perfection, and in the end had little more to show for their efforts than grandiose theories and a pile of dead clay." Quality is a byproduct of quantity. Violent consistency. That's the real recipe.

But some of us are literally on our feet moving around and doing things - nothing strenuous or hard but all that extra movement adds up in a day.

It’s largely a non factor for most folks though because outside of their structured gym workouts most people are just sitting around all day.

NEAT - non exercise activity thermogenesis. These are cals you burn incidentally and not through structured exercise. And it can vary by as much as 1000 calories per day between individuals. Never really discussed much.
