@RogersHistory Not a teacher but know lots and I have heard of this going on. Decent teachers who were deemed to ‘not fit’ at a school were hounded out and then found it difficult to get jobs elsewhere

I'll tell you what is proper scummy, backhanded references (or phone calls) to prevent perfectly good teachers who didn't buy into some toxic BS from moving on with their careers. This is endemic in education, some proper vindictive slyness out there.

@ThatRyn @poornabell Definitely this. As a dad with 3 kids, if one is sick or has an appointment I have to take the time out to go with them (I work freelance from home which helps but still time out of working day when people expect you at your desk) And if I’m sick… I just have to carry on.

@poornabell The assumption that there is someone else who can stay in for tradespeople, run errands, look after you after medical procedures etc. There's nobody else to split the life admin and no one to help if something goes wrong. It's not always a financial cost, usually time and energy.
