The draft IT rules are proof that the govt is allergic to free press. If notified, these rules will allow the govt to ban any independent journalist’s online content. Indians heavily rely on independent journalists for news that affects them, things that mainstream channels or publications do not necessarily cover. Without independent journalists, there’s no way of knowing if a “toolkit” is being used to spread fake news or not.
We have a fundamental right to information, and a right against misinformation and disinformation. These rules bypass existing stay orders by courts and also violate the SC’s Shreya Singhal judgement.

Just to clarify, since some don’t seem to understand: 1) This death sentence will be delivered by military courts, there’s no jury, no representation 2) These military courts try Palestinian children 3) A child who throws a stone can be deemed a “terrorist” and now put to death.

Will die on the hill (and basing this on seeing things with ground reports), that there is a rise of either sheer nihilism, or a larger radicalisation, amongst gen-Z and upcoming younger generations which should seriously concern the rest of us. We can’t leave things to this.

When I first heard Hindutva pop music in 2018, it was a firmly rural phenomenon. Could barely find anyone in urban areas who knew of such music. 8 years on, Gen Zs in Mumbai, are singing along and grooving to it. This is last night, at a Ram Navami procession in Mumbai.
