@hxwkstwo Yes, Overwatch tried to be competitive initially as Esports was more trendy. They realized really quick who their audience is.

@awkwardOW Remember, the competitive state DID matter once upon a time, but that is no longer the case, at all. Fortnite, roblox, and every free game proves this. Live service is the actual money maker.

Overwatch is a business. What the 0.01% of the player base think about game balance is irrelevant. The average QP player means a lot more than a Rank 1 player to Blizzard.

@booknstuffs Any valve game cares about top players yes. Because the game is inherently competitive and attracts a competitive audience to a non changing game.

@awkwardOW Is there any game that care about top players tho. I've just had issue with one game I played for 6 yrs (high elo), and they gave no shits about solving the issue and seem to prefer to let me go.

@averagebutstill Well apparently it’s not really groundbreaking when you see content creators “not understanding” balance changes as if high elo matters in the grand scheme of things.

@EvoRulz117 The most popular heroes in competitive don't reflect the best hero picks in high elo. The idea that high elo players dictate what is being played in low elo is just false.

@awkwardOW i mean when it comes to competitive play, the average player cares what the top players (at least ones who stream) think the most, so that gives thier opinions more weight and more influence, people constantly use thier rank as a credential in online debates about overwatch

@EvoRulz117 It's not true. The most played heroes in Overwatch on each role (Mercy, Reinhardt, Soldier) are "not meta in high elo!!"

@madGodbird Because content creators are the window to the casual player base. Blizzard doesn't invite people based on rank, they invite based on social media numbers.
